I just sent off for a Montana Black Bear tag and and have a load worked up for my 280 Rem with a 140gr AccuBond and wanted some input if that's a good bullet weight or should I go heavier? I feel it's more than enough bullet.

I would be very comfortable with a 140 grain AccuBond in my 280. I have hunted with 139 grain Hornady SP and currently have 140 grain Partitions loaded. It will smack a black bear right smart!

You have more than enough bullet to take on a black bear.
Black bears are easy to kill and die quick if you put the bullet where it needs to go.

You have more than enough gun to kill a bear. Heck, Davy Crockett used to grin  them to death down here in TN.

I agree that the 140 gr. AccuBond and or 140 gr. Partition would be more than adequate for blackies. Although there are a couple scenario's I can think of where I would want a 160 gr., just because
But I would settle with more of an middle of the road approach. So for me, I would go with a 150 gr. Partition

FWIW, my sister-in-law has taken 5-6 bears, all of them with her M700 Mountian Rifle 280 Rem loaded with 140 gr PT's.

If I was all set up for 140s, I wouldn't change a thing. If I were starting from scratch, I might think about going heavier, but then again, I might not.

Thank's everyone! I thought I was good to go but just wanted a second opinion.
