Well caught some bullets this morning. After some accuracy testing I took my last 175 and jug it. Got 10 jugs lined up and ready laid down chambered and boom water everywhere!! So took a look at the Chrony 2849. This was my 10th 175 two different powder charges 5 each 2830-2904 2856 mean SD of 20 ES of 74. I was really hoping to reach 3k since the 160 is running 3160. Nothing special accuracy wise either. I was sub-1" but not near good enough.

Get up there and the first 4 jugs are all over the place 5 has big split 6 has been punched 7th cut no bullet!! So I look on the ground under the jugs behind where they were set up nothing! Spend 30 minutes looking for this thing and can't find it. So oh well go get 5 more jugs and set up for the 160. Come back and as I'm lining up the jugs I find it. It had cut the 7th and bounced off and landed 6 feet away!

The 175 PT weighed 115.1 for 65.77% retention opened up to .604" and went through 6 jugs and cut the 7th. MV was 2849 jugs at 25 yards.

So I collect my prize go back line up and shoot a 160. Come up to find my shiny used bullet and this one has gone through 4 and inbetween 4 and 5 with the 5th jug cut. So I started thinking well I might just have enough jugs still here for one more, and I do have one more shell in my pocket! So one more and caught it in the 4th jug.

First 160 was 96.9 for 60.5% retention opened up to .632" and went through 4 jugs and cut the 5th. MV was 3086 jugs at 25 yards.

Second 160 was 95.4 for 59.6% retention opened up to .506" and was caught in 4th jug. MV was 3174 jugs at 25 yards.

Also shot a 5 shot group with the 160's under an inch for 5 I pulled #4 to the right a touch and #3 hit about .5" lower than the rest. I had the chrony on this string and minus the one that hit low I think I was really good. 3159, 3167, 3137, 3152, 3159. The third shot pissed me off cause I really was taking my time trying to get a good group. One and Two were great and then #3 ruined my concentration.

If you guys want more pictures let me know. I kinda been in a rush all day I took a couple more and can't find them.

Pretty neat, Jake. That was good penetration. It would be interesting to see the bullet from a couple of other angles.

Jake,

Good work.
I have always been leary of shooting jugs up close for the very reason you experienced. For me, 50 yds is good.

Yes Jim I agree. I'm learning. Need more practice I feel comfortable getting everything lined up after today I will start streching things out. Here's some more pictures.

Nice... I can tell you that at 180 yards, and a 2930 fps mv, the 175 Partition will go right on through a big bull elk's chest...

Its tough to beat the PT. You always know what they will look like too when you recover one.

6 jugs at 25 yards is actually really amazing Jake. I had the same results you had with the 160 AB at 3100 out of the 7mm WSM. 4 jugs and found in the 5th. That 175 PT is a MONSTER!

Great pictures. Both of those bullets really make the 7mm seem a little bit bigger than it really is. I am looking forward to working with the 175 PT in the 7 Rem Mag. Haven't messed with that bullet in a long time.. It shot pretty well in the 7WSM as well. Right around 2950 with Retumbo.

Thanks for mentioning this test in the 7mm Mashburn thread. I assume that no one else can see the pictures right now either, if you have a chance to throw up a picture of how the 175 gr PT looks again that would be cool 8)

7 jugs is quite good, those will definitely penetrate deep on animals like moose, elk and grizzly :)

Here's the 175 PT.

Very nice Jake. I've got 175's loaded up in the 7mm Mashburn. Just need a good day to test them.
