I am pushing them a little over 2700 fps and shoot great. I never used them on elk before. She does not like Accubonds that much.
What say you?

Pop,

The 180 gr BT will get the job done, no worries.
If you are set on 180 gr, try the 180 gr PT.

The other option is the 200 gr AB, your 30-06 will become a 300 yd hammer for elk.

It depends on the range you intend to hunt with them. I find them to preform well at 06 vel. but would still shy away from them for elk under 100yds.

I've hunted exclusively with 27cal 150GR BT. I've shot 7 elk with these bullets some pushing 400yds. THE BT's are great bullets

I suggest the Nosler Solid Base in 180gr for elk less explosive same good accuracy!

The tried and proven 180gr Nosler Partition would also be excellent.

I have one rifle 30-06 prefers the Sierra 200gr Gameking and IMR 4350.

 the ballistic tip may overkill your elk, but it will kill them if you put them in the chest. not a good choice for rear entry shots

I don't know if it really matters, POP, but Nosler doesn't recommend the BT for elk except in the .323cal. Used to be anything larger than .308, but since the bigger stuff has all be converted to AB, now there's only the lonely little .323 180gr.

I've been loading that bullet in 4 buddies 300 Win Mags at 3000-3100fps over the last few years, They've used it on everything from antelope, deer, black bear, and plenty of spike bull elk, I think it will get the job done beautifully, especially at the lower working velocity of the 06. 9 of 10 times, the bullet has exited, even when encountering bone. THe only 1 bullet I have ever found was on the offside shoulder of a spike bull elk that was taken at 550 yards. He dropped DRT...

Good luck POP!

I'm planning on using 180 BT"s for my nephew's upcomming cow elk hunt next weekend and have every bit of faith in it. IMR4350, WLR, 2720 fps shoots good.

Pop, I've used 180 BT's in my .300 BEE on 150lb deer and 250lb hogs and have gotten complete penetration on all. I think bullet placement is more important than bullet constrution in this case, if the bt's didnt come apart with a weatherb , you wont have any problems.I would do it.

hey thanks for the welcome. I do have a picture of my co-workers son's elk. A Navajo Nation youth elk tag, this is from over the weekend. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
