30-06, H4350, and 180 grain bullets

I have been using 56.5 grains of H4350 with 180 Partitions in my 30-06 recently. I just wondered how much H4350 others used with good results?

I tried up to 57.5 grains, no pressure signs, but erratic accuracy. I saw too many fliers.

New Nosler brass, WLR Primer, 56.0gr of H4350 under a 180gr Partition give me very good , less than an inch, accuracy and about 2,625 - 2,650 fps out of my Rem 700 CDL when I do my part.

I am running 55.0grs of H4350 and 180gr NP's in an older Win Mod 70 30-06 and have around a 1" group with 5 shots. I am also getting 2618fps velocity with that load. I ran up higher, but had pressure signs before the groups would start tightening up again. I have also used IMR4350 with 55.5grs and same bullet with just about the exact sized groupings.

I have used the 55.5 grain load with both the Nosler and Hornady 180 grain bullets for right at 2700 fps in the 24" barrel of my Win 70. Killed a 6x3 mule deer buck in 2009 (and several others) with that load and the Hornady bullet. I have used the WLR primers almost exclusively over the years. This load with either bullet is a very accurate one in my rifle.

I have used 165s for an all-around load mostly because I pick up some velocity that way but the 180s are the true all-around bullet in a .30-06 in my opinion if anything larger than deer is to be hunted at all. Jack O'Connor tells of shooting a grizzly with a 180 grain Corelokt out of his .30-06 in Alaska in his book The Hunting Rifle.

H4350 and the 180's go together in the .30-06 very, very well. I have been messing with Ramshot Hunter in recent years.

Well, that is some great shooting Jimbeaux82. That should get any job done quickly.

Every once in a while you get a good factory rifle that just shoots lights out. This is one of them. It shoots most everything I have tried under 1". I did the same thing using 180 gr NP's and VVN160, 3 shot .5" group. Now for some reason I am having a little more trouble getting 180 NBT's to shoot. I am currently getting 1.25" groups with them but I am not finished experimenting with seating depth so maybe I can tighten it up a bit. Maybe it does not like boat tailed bullets as much as flat based but I have been able to get 150 NBT's to shoot under 1" so I am a little baffeled by this combination.

I guess that is why we all enjoy reloading - the never ending search for the perfect load.

My 06's have always shot better with flat-based bullets. 180's have never been as accurate as 165's. .5 groups is good to go, nothing you cannot get done with that combination!

I had great luck with 57.0 grs of IMR4350 and 180 BT's and AB's, would shoot half MOA all day, 0.020" off the lands. With ONE 27" Hart barrel, I was getting 2,911fps. I've had three barrels for that rifle and never gotten close to that velocity. . . It was a sad day when I shot it out.

I run 180g BTs and 180g Interlocks, with 57.0 and 57.5g respectively of H4350. This generates approx 2780fps in both and produces solid sub moa 3 shot accuracy in my 24 inch stainless Zastava. The Nosler tends to be juuuust a little more accurate.

Works really well for me from pigs and goats to red deer so far. Hope to get after a sambar next season, and will be sticking with one of the above combos, probably the NBT.
