We hauled both .30-06 rifles to the range today, along with quite a bit of ammo loaded with 165 gr Nosler Solid Base soft points & H4350. These bullets aren't offered by Nosler anymore, but I picked up quite a few several years ago when they were offered at a good discount. They're accurate and effective. Young John has used them on two bucks and a bear in recent years, with excellent results.

John started out with "his" Model of 1917 .30-06 rifle & 6x Leupold. He shoots this pretty well, and although rusty, he shot about a 1.5 MOA group. The rifle can beat that, but that's what we got from the old warhorse today:

Then he gave the new 700 CDL '06 a try, with the same ammo, easily breaking MOA. Love the Nosler Dangerous Game ammo t-shirt:

Of course I had to get in on the .30-06 shooting too. The 165's were very pleasant to shoot from the new Remington, and accurate as well, though built for the 1917 rifle.

We'll get some more practice with the .30-06 rifles prior to bear season, and I'll load up some hunting loads with the 165 Partitions. Should work just fine...

Regards, Guy

Better hope the bears don't see these pics., they'll be hidin' in a deep

hole come Bear Season   !

Nice!
Tough to beat the 30-06. The CDL is a nice looking rifle and seems to be plenty accurate.

I am envious. :) A day at the range with a favorite rifle is a day well spent. What is your charge of H4350? I find that I stay between 56-57 grains in my Winchester Model 70 and with its 24" barrel I get right at 2800 with several different bullets. They both sound like good shooters. :) Thanks for the pictures.

I really like how those CDL's look and yours is a good shooter by the sounds of it. Like how the old Redfield looks on tht gun too.

That is a cool pair of rifles Guy. That CDL looks excellent buddy and 165 PT's will put the pain on them WA bears. Cool pictures. Getting pretty amped to get some range time myself.

Thanks guys. I was intending to shoot primarily 180's from the new CDL, but I dunno, it feels GOOD with the 165's and the targets looked pretty good too...

More trips to the range & afield will of course occur!

Guy

Pretty cool pair of rifles right there. Whatever you end up loading, the critters are in trouble with you two prowling the hills!

It is never a mistake to use a 30-06 in the field. Nice indeed Guy, I sure do love the 30-06. I do like that CDL, really sweet looking rifle.
