My sons have been after me to load them up some of Hornady's 160 grain FTX now that they are on the market to reload. I have tried Hornady and IMR for onfo on IMR powders and grains and I have had no success. My question is,what IMR powders and what grains of each can I use to load the 160GR.FTX? I would appreciate the help if aanyone knows.

IMR3031, H322 and Varget.

IMR3031 start at 27grs work up half grain at a time.

H322 start at 27grs work up half grain at a time.

Varget start at 30grs work up half grain at a time.
 
Always loaded IMR3031 in .30-30 with 150s. Never really tested them, but now that I actually own an M94 (with a receiver sight, no less, thanks cuz!) I guess I'll need to. Before it was just minimum load to make noise in other's guns.

Got a little dope on IMR-3031 with the 150 grain sierra bullet. 34 grains gave 2320 fps. on the chrony. This was in a marlin 336, win. brass and cci-200 primers. 34 grs. is definitly a max load in my guns. 3031 gave real good accuracy and nice velocity. I clocked 8ea. factory remington loads at a high of 2281 for one round and 4ea. at a low of 2235. So IMR-3031 is a winner in my book. But, IMR-4064 has proven a little better in the accuracy department with 170 grain bullets and up to a max. of 34 grains in both of my marlin-336,s. I settled on 33.0 grains for a velocity of 2100 fps and real good accuracy. No pressure signs at all with the 33 grain load. 34 grains gave slightly craterd primers. Don,t know for sure but it is likely the 160 hornady bullet would like either one of the IMR powders. That 160 hornady looks real interesting. I,m going to cook up a load myself as soon as I can find them in the stores out west. I,m thinking along the lines of the same overall length that hornady uses and probably 31 grains of 4064 on hornady brass to start. My backup plan is to try some H4895. We shall see. :idea: :idea: :idea:
