question on neck bulge 30-06: RESOLVED

looks like your seater die is screwed in to far making try to crimp and seat at the same time .

Resolved. Thanks all and @ronco for the side msg.

I ended up buying a set of Hornady dies so that I could take out the decapper pin and then resize. I was never going to get this resolved with
either Lee's full length resizer die or the collet resizer because of that decapper. With the Lee collet die and it's neck pin I could get the case good enough for my Ruger #1 but not for my Browning Xbolt.

I won't be buying anymore Lee dies for rifle.

I learned my lesson on necks and dies.

I'm not sure I understand the issue here. There is nothing wrong with using the Lee rifle dies, with the expander/decapper rod left in place. The original problem is that the brass was sized without using an expander ball. You were sizing the outside of the neck, but not the inside of the neck. So what is preventing you from using the Lee dies with the expander installed?

There's an issue with using lee with primed brass when the necks were needing a serious resizing.

I think your easiest path is to spend 8 dollars and by a new decapper/expander for 30-06 from Lee and cut the decapping pin off. Will do exactly what you want and cheaply. Not sure what you mean by not having a neck sizer if removing the decapper on a standard die. It will neck size just not expand the neck back out. Obviously if you remove on the collet the collect will have no pin to push against but the standard die will definitely size the neck down.

Yes, I could of bought another lee pin and cut the tip off but I wanted to venture out with another brand that supported the removal of the decapping pin. If I would of had a resizing die that supported the removal of that pin in the first place, well, I probably wouldn't have asked the question in the first place. I'm just used to doing pistol cartridges with lee dies... no problems there.

That’s exactly what I did when I pulled some old loads in my 243 when I was working a new load. Ground the pin down and ordered a replacement pin.
