Quickload 30-06 180gr Ballistic Tip Magpro

Quickload request using Magpro powder in the 30-06.Magpro is a spherical double based powder that has a burnrate just a little faster than H-1000.It's a heavy powder by volume,so you can put a lot of powder in the case,much like Reloader-26.Since this powder is more available as well as cheaper than Reloader-26,I thought I'd give it a try.All the Quickload data I've seen doesn't list list powder or if it does it will stop at a low pressure load with much more room to go up with this powder.I tried it the other day with a 180gr Ballistic Tip starting at 64.0grs,64.5grs,65.0grs,65.5grs.I didn't really notice excessive pressure signs.I was having some issues with my Prochrono chronograph getting a reading on the different charges,however I did get a reading on the 65.0gr load.I got 2944fps with that load.I was going to double check my reading with my Magnetospeed,but when I shot,the pin on my strap bracket popped out and killed the bayonet.

Thanks DrMike.It looks like 65.0grs would be around 61K pressure,about what I was expecting.I'll have to check my velocity and accuracy once I get my new Magnetospeed bayonet.I've never experimented much with the 180gr bullets with the slower powders,but it looks like Magpro just might get me close to Reloader26 with close to the same pressures too.
 
Man If you can get to 64.0 grains, you should be sitting on an accuracy node. That would make for an accurate and powerful load.

Yep.I want to work with 64.0-65.0grs a little more,maybe even try a different primer too.I just picked up the Remington primers recently,but usually Winchester or Federal are my go to primers.
 
Shouldn't take long to find a decent load there.

Are you using a chronograph?

I had my Prochrono set up to check velocities,but I was having some issues with it not giving me readings.I got a 2944fps reading with 65.0grs and was going to compare it with my Magnetospeed and when I shot the pin on my strap bracket popped out and the bullet grazed the top of the bayonet and was unable to get a reading after that.
