300 Rum arrived

Who knows maybe I will keep it and do something with it some days.

I know the feeling; I've got some guns that I don't know why I keep 'em, rather then selling 'em and getting something I might enjoy shooting more frequently.

For me, my guns must have a purpose or fill some hunting niche for me to want to keep them. If they over lap enough with no real advantage of one over the other one of them must go.

It will be interesting the choice you make about what to keep. A 30 caliber with a 200gr bullet moving 3000fps we know what it will do and how well it will kill, and you have a gun that will throw a 220gr bullet at 3000fps. Like I said, will be interesting what you keep and what discard.

The only place the 8mm is going is elk hunting. The 300 rum is a great round and if I did not have my 8mm mag I would be thrilled about the 300 rum. I won't sell the 8mm as mine was an unfired classic in 100% perfect condition, still is and they are not near as easy to come by, plus is very accurate. The 300 rum, there a dime a dozen.

Bill

I was hoping you would keep your Big 8 I like mine so much I just pick it up an hold working the bolt and throwing it to my shoulder. Haven't done that with a rifle in a long time except my Nosler M48 TGR.

Bill,

You know you could sell me the 8mm Rem Mag.

I'm sorry Jim your message did not come through clearly, sounded like you wanted me to sell you my 8mm mag which I KNOW could not have been the message that was sent.

Well I broke down and gave in to the 300 rum. Yesterday I ordered a Nikon scope, just installed Leupold DD mounts, bought redding dies, brass and 50 accubonds. I guess I'll see what she will do.

Bill

By all means, Bill, you should at least dirty the barrel. Careful, though, or you might fall in love with that big fire-breathing cartridge.

Your right Mike I should and I shall. I'm quite sure I will like it, that is why I wanted to sell it before I shot it.

I will say, of all the Ultra Mags, the 300 is perhaps my favourite, with the 338 RUM running a close second. I can't say that I've warmed to the others.

Bill,

I think you are in deep dark trouble.

Me too. It will be a week or so before I get out but will post results as soon as I have them.

I would imagine it should be a lively time out on the range! I hope that CDL is a tack driver Bill. I passed up on a 7RUM in a CDL about 6 years ago in all places, a Walmart.. They had it for sale pretty cheap, but I just wasn't into the 7RUM. My CDL Whelen is a great rifle though.

I swear if I end up like this 300 rum as much as I think I will I'll have you know, I'm blaming all of you as I was content to just sell it.

Bill,
I'm telling you if you get that 300 RUM shooting like mine and Woodycreek's you'll be glad you kept it. Mine performed really well, in the past, with 180 bullets, can't imagine what she will do with the 200 AB I'm shooting now. Waiting to draw first blood, hopefully this year. She may kick a little but it brings the hammer down on the other end.

Don

I have high hopes of it shooting as good as yours and Woddycreek's 300 rums, if it does I may have to keep it (dam you guys). Can't imagine the kick being any more than my 338-378 or 338 Lapua
