This is the 2nd Rifle I sold to him.

The young man is the son of a buddy of mine. When he turned 12, his dad said he was chomping the bit to go deer hunting. I sold him a Savage 243 that I put into an after market Black / Grey spider web stock, VariX II 3x9 for about $200 a few years ago. He is deadly with that gun. He now has some friends that have got into the the "Long Range" shooting. They live in Eastern WA where .. yea .. you could shoot as far as you think you can. So for two years now he has been saying he wants to get into this and has been researching and talking with others. He has laid his hands on long range rigs with glass that I bet are over $7000 and talked with them about the whole idea.

I broke down the last conversation I had with his dad and told him maybe I could sell his son my Sendero - 300RUM (big, strong kid - varsity football - center).
He has worked all summer and had the cash and was going to buy into something. I sold the gun w/ - Jewel Trig, Muzzle Brake, bases rings, VX3 4.5x14 - M1 turrets, and reloading dies and supplies. I basically gave it to him but when he came over to look at the gear you could see the excitement. Yes I got some cash but not what I would sell on the street for. I have a Nikon range finder I'm going to loan him for the season to get started. He already has about 15 shots through it and his dad says that he can shoot it very well. Now he just needs a little mentoring and lots of shooting.

Funny thing is his dad was standing to the back and side with the first shot off the bench and found out the hard way about muzzle brakes.

That is cool of you to help a young man out getting started in long range shooting.

Very nice. Perfect rifle to get into the game. Hard to hold the 300RUM down when you are going really long.

Cool, man, very good of you.

Of course, he could have bought a new, fast-twist barrel for his Savage in .243 and had a dandy LR rig, too...

With that kind of rifle and enthusiasm he's headed in the right direction. I'll bet he gets good with it. That was in the spirit of giving back to the shooting community by starting a new shooter off right. Might even see him at the Olympics some day thanks to you.

Well they both lived through it and now know about brakes! It is really nice to help a friend or a friends kid get started centerfire shooting and hunting with his own rifle. I do not remeber much from my teen years anymore but I do remember getting the first shotgun, rimfire and rifle when I was a kid, with money that I had earned working summer jobs.
