The 165 gr AB should be a laser beam out of the 300 RUM.

JD338

Rem 300RUM Brass trimmed to 2.83
95gn of Retumbo
Nosler 200AB
COL of 3.635
Fed GM215M primers

168gr TTSX
96.0gr Retumbo
Fed 215 primer
3.675”

This load has been accurate in 9 different 300 RUM rifles. It has cleanly killed, 8 moose, 4 caribou, 5 black bear, 1 brown bear, and 3 blacktail deer. It is the only load I will probably ever shoot out of my rifle.

My all-too-brief relationship with the .300 RUM ended up at 95 grains of Retumbo and the 200 gr Partition or AccuBond. Terrific load!

Seen that load do magnificent things to elk!

You didn't mention what game animal you are hunting and I would assume Whitetails.

My 300 RUM load

Remington 700 BDL 26" barrel, ported

Remington Brass
Federal 215 primers
200 AccuBond, seated the length of the magazine
91.5 Reloader 25 (Nosler book, max charge for this powder)

35-degree temps give 3,060 fps, 70-degrees and above 3,100 fps +

Ordinarily I'd never consider using a bullet that light in the 300 RUM. However, you have certainly made a compelling argument.

I have not shot an animal with this load yet only paper.
It is accurate in my rifle
180 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip
Fed 215 primer
97.0 grs of Retumbo
3.657'' overall lenght of loaded cartridge
Remington or Nosler brass

When using a Barnes or other mono metal bullet you really should reduce bullet weight by at least 15% when compared with standard conventional bullet weights. So a 168 TTSX is comparable to a 200gr cup/core type bullet. Not only in physical size but also in effectiveness on game.

I really think using a too heavy/tough mono metal bullet decrease effectiveness and are the reason many have had poor results with them.

Even given my limited experience with Barnes TSX bullets, I'd agree.

They penetrate like crazy!

I had a 100 gr Barnes TSX from my .25-06 out-penetrate a most of the bullets I tested from my .45/70 Marlin...

I got a mess of 168 gr Nosler E-Tips a while back, on sale, because I figured they'd be more than enough bullet for ANY BIG GAME in North America.

Or 92.5 gr rl25

My most accurate load ever!

My 300RUM has become pretty much my main rifle. I like how it feels and it's easy to shoot, but does get a little heavy at the end of the day though.
Wow, looking at picture I took, I've had it 9 years now.....

If your not hunting anything bigger than white tails a light Barnes at high speed makes for a good load.

I have a buddy back in Michigan who loads the 130gr TTSX at nearly 3800fps. Sighted 3" high at 100 yards he aims on fur out to 500 yards. He's not much on range estimation and says it's easier to just "put the crosshairs on brown, bang it's down!" He has used it on several white tails every year.

Yeah but I bet a 150 E-TIP would be poison too in the 300 RUM! Just sayin
