I started working with an Accumark in 300 Weatherby. 165 gr Weatherby factory ammo would do no better than 1.5" for 3 shots. Factory ammo with the 130 Barnes TTSX shot well under an inch. There is not much data for the 130 gr in a 300 Weatherby. Anybody got any pet loads for the Barnes 130? How does it stack up to the heavier bullets like the 150 AccuBond. I want a high velocity load to work with this deer season and then go to a heavier 180 plus grain bullet like a 200 AccuBond later and make comparisons on performance on deer size game at moderate ranges. Under 400 yards.

My brother has had great success with the 168gr TTSX in his 300wby. Loaded with imr 7828 was under 3/4". I tend to like a heavier bullet so I wouldnt recommend the 130gr in such a magnum caliber. Good luck though. The 180 or 200gr AccuBond would be a hammer in your rifle.

Yeah, I would think the 130gr TTSX would be a good deer bullet in the 300 WBY, I am not sure if it would be any better than a 180 AccuBond/PT-200Accubond/PT like bullet though. You will get blistering speeds out of the 130 and those would probably work great on deer and perhaps even larger stuff, but I would run the numbers and see where the longer bullets with more BC start to overtake the 130gr TTSX. Nothing wrong with them, and if you are shooting out to 300 yards, the 130 will likely have less recoil and shoot flat as a string.

I don't have any load data for the 130gr in a WBY, but I would imagine if you looked at Hodgdon you would find something that would work for you. Scotty

Doeroller,
Where are you located? I have a couple of 300 Bees that I load for. They like hot loads, but I don't like the TSX bullets at all in any of my WBYs. But, until the E-Tip, here in Ca, we are somewhat stuck....

I use a 180 Partition and 180 AB for my 300. Muzzle is around 3150 fps, and the bullet has both the BC and the knockdown power for a 400 or 500 yard shot. I have not gotten the 180 gr TSX to group better than 3 inches for any of my bees.

Check the front screw on the WBY, Should be at 35 inch pounds. Most WBY Barrels require pressure in the front to shoot well. You might want to check out their web site as well, but 1.5" is the guarantee.

Last question, are you letting the barrel get cold again after firing each shot?

130 is way too light for the 300 Bee in my opinion. 165 is the lightest I would go. For best all around load, nothing beats the 180 grainer.

I'm with Desert Fox. The 300 'bee and 180gr bullets are like oreos and milk - made for each other.

I am from Mississippi along the Big Black River corridor, arguably the best place in the state for trophy whitetail deer. I am going to try torqueing the action screws properly to see if the gun will shoot the heavier bullets better. Right now anything over 400 yds will be a poke and a hope except with the 130 Barnes TTSX bullets in factory guise.

I just ran the numbers to get an idea of trajectory out to 500 yards and really, the 180gr and 130gr bullets are almost identical out to 500 yards. Granted the 180gr bullet is still holding 2000Ftlbs at 500 and the 130 is at 1300, but for deer, that is still plenty to 500. So, for your purposes, I can't see anything the 130gr wouldn't do for you. I would rather have a heavier bullet for wind bucking abilities, but again, that isn't going to matter too much unless you were shooting way out there. Good luck with your rifle, for deer, I would shoot whatever shoots best and makes you feel confident in your set up. Scotty

My bees love barnes bullets, must be their length. I would try the 180 or 200 ttsx in that 300 bee. Or maybe the e-tip.

The 130 TSX would rock in any Bee. They thrive on speed and I would use it on antelope to moose without a second thought! When talking about monolithics weight means very little.
My 30-378 shoots the 168 TTSX at 3575 fps and .6" at 100 yards.

Pop, that is unreal, almost 3700FPS out of the Weatherby with the 130's. I only saw data to 3450! That would be a laser to highest degree. Imagine what it would do to deer! Wow, that is smoking! Scotty

Nah, just whoa-ed a little by them. Still not a card carrying WBY cartridge member, so that is some blistering speeds to me. I would imagine that would cauterize a wound channel it is moving so fast! Scotty

Well, at 500 yds, I would worry a lot more about wind drift than drop. My load is down 33 inches at 500, even a light wind at 10 mph might move the bullet over a foot, turning a killing shot into a gut shot or missing in front of the deer.

For the 130 gr tsx with a BC of 0.340, and a velocity of 3600, wind drift could be over 19 inches! Not going to happen on any hunt that I guide or shot that I take. Even at 400 yds, wind drift can be a foot with only a 10 mph wind. Since we hunt often in 30 mph wind, I don't want to shoot a low BC bullet. BTW, I would like to see a shot inside of 300 yds.

My advice would be to work out a load at 180 grs with an AB, before shooting any leadfree bullet.
Hardpan.
