I'm planing on working on some loads using 180gr E-Tips in my 300 win mag, max range would be 600-700 yards. I'm curious if anyone has work up any loads and what powders did they use? Did some searching and looks like the e-tips like a jump from .050"-.100"and use lower charges due to pressure. I have some RL-22 and H4831 powder I plan to try.

Your powders sound about perfect for the 180/300 Win Mag. I would use Nosler data and start at the low end. I believe the (stated) mid charge will be your max, all depending on your rifle. Looking forward to see how you make out. Scotty

Your powder choices for your 300 Win Mag are good. Start out at .100" off the lands, the E-Tip likes a lot of jump to the lands.

Thanks guys. I was just looking at the Nosler # 6 book (Thanks CAhunter) and was thinking RL-22 first since it works well with the 300 win however, Nosler shows IMR 4831 @ 69grs. 180gr bullet as a low node. That might be a good start with imr 4831,and I have a little bit of that powder.

The smallest group I ever shot was with 180 gr Sierra Match BT with 70 grains of H-4350, my favorite load for hunting is 72 gr. of H-4350 with the 180 grain PT. I know several other guys that use that same load. If you are going to try it work up slow from about 68.

I have a load for the 180gr Etip in the 300 win mag that i have good accuracy with. 80gr H1000 gives 2890fps in my 20" barrel. It has shot 1 1/2" groups at 300yds. In a 26" barrel it could reach 3100fps or close to it. It is a compressed load and I crimp with a lee crimp die to stop bullet migration. I tried h4831 and rl22 but did not get the accuracy i wanted.

RL 25 might work well also. These tend to be sticky so a slower powder might do the trick.

I am beginning to think the slower (RL25 and maybe others) are really going to work well in the 300 Win. Never tried anything slower than RL22 in mine. Looking forward to experimenting a little more and seeing how it works out. Scotty

Well I finally got around to shoot the e-tips. I first started 72.5grs. well it end with pressure signs, hard bolt lift and flat primer. So I stop shooting, went back and loaded 70.5,71,71.5 gr.Shot @ 100 meters. I really like how 71grs fall between the other two,so if there is any fluctuation they all seem to hit same POI. Looks like i need to play with col a little, just which way?? I'm thing closer to the lands?

Elkman stated.........., "my favorite load for hunting is 72 gr. of H-4350 with the 180 grain PT."

Do you get a lot of powder compression with that load and bullet selection? By seating the bullet .100 off the lands, wouldn't that make it even more compressed? Any chrono tests?

I load 71 gr of IMR 4350, 165 gr NP's and the case is full. I'm gonna try switching to RL-22 and see if I can extra space.

Chrony results: 300 win mag 180gr etips, R&P brass (collet die), cci-250 primer, Reloader 22 powder, .100" off the lands.

5-7 mph winds.

I do believe this will work very well on the game you named. We'll all be looking for pictures of the game you take this coming season.
