Anyone use this combo on whitetails? How did they perform? What range? What loads?

Thanks for any info,

WVHILLBILLYJLM

Probably not much help but I have played with them in the 300 RUM. With RL22 they hit 3600 fps or so . Talk about flat shooting. Anyway I ran this simulation for you.

Cartridge : .300 Win. Mag.(R)
Bullet : .308, 150, Nosler AccuBond 56719
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.340 inch or 84.84 mm
Barrel Length : 24.0 inch or 609.6 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.

Matching Maximum Pressure: 64570 psi, or 445 MPa

or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 105 %

These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.
C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.

Thanks POP, I really appreciate that information. I got this rifle not long ago and have been working on some loads for it. I've been working with the 208gr A-Max and RL-22 mostly but it has shown some preferance for 165-168gr BT and SMKs but I'm currently out of them and was looking at other bullets to try.

Do you think 150gr BTs are too light for 300 Win Mag velocities. My shots may range from 25yds to 500yds.

Thanks again,
WVHILLBILLYJLM

The BT needs to be at 3000 fps or slower impact velocity, AB at 3100 fps or lower. IMHO, a 150 gr bullet is on the light side and will make for a real mess on close shots.
The 180 gr AB is an excellent all around bullet in your 300 Win Mag. It will buck the wind well and retain a lot of energy for those long range shots.
Work up to 75.0 grs of RL22, this should get you to 3000 fps MV with MOA or better accuracy.

I have used the 150gr ab's on deer out of my 300wm. It makes a real mess of a whitetail at any distance closer than 200yds.I shot a deer at 150yds and it blew chunks of meat 30 feet back the way the shot came from. Try the 180gr ab's and you will be very happy.

How about the 150 accu. on cow elk? Anyone tried that combo?

I personnally would use either the 180 or 200 AB. If you really want to use a 150, then load up partitions.

Given good placement yes it could be done, no problem.

I knew a fella who shot moose with a 25-06 ad the 100 grain Hornady SP. Try telling him he was undergunned! His freezer proved otherwise year after year. But, he picked his shots very carefully and he lived in a place where moose were like deer, to you and I. If not presented with a good shot ...no sweat come back tomorrow.
Most of us do not have that luxury especially with once in a lifetime hunts.
Point is if you're going to err do it on the heavy side, kind of added insurance, if you will.

I subscribe to the one gun one load theory.

100 gr BT for antelope, varmints in the 25-06

160 AccuBond in my 7mm rem mag- deer elk moose

200 gr AccuBond or 168 gr TTSX (so far) in my 300 RUM elk and above

330 GS Custom at 3100 fps in my 416 WBY---everything more or less.

Not to say you can not play with the lightweights but if you do leave them for lighter game at those super speeds.

Keep life simple.

+1, Keep life simple!!! I will note that the Nosler #6 has a fairly good range of powders listed if you want to slow down your 150 grn Ab to a velocity it won't destroy so much meat.

CC

I use 76 grains of RL22 and a 150gr AccuBond. Load shoots .5in. at 100 yds. Big Deer 180 # to 200# hog dressed shot with the load are DRT.

150's should work out of 300WM as the reloads of 140gr AB's in my 270WSM's work flawlessly on elk. I use 180gr AB's in my 300WM loaded to 74.0gr of RL 22 gives my very close to 1/2" groups.

BULLET PLACEMENT is the key!
