300 win mag

I have been using RL-22 in my 300 for some time but am thinking of trying another powder just for fun. Anyone know anything about Alliant's 4000 MR? Less temp sensitive than RL-22? I'm impressed with the listed velocity. 3100 fps with 180gr. bullet. Also considering H-1000. I typically load 180gr. Noslers. Any pro's or cons to any of these powders? CJ

If not RL22, as you mentioned because of temp and also lot to lot variations, the next powder I would go to would be H1000. Similar in burn rate, but not near as temp or lot to lot sensitive in most cases.

My 300 loves 4350 with the 180 gr bullet. Goups of sub 1/2 minute are common! I think that H-1000 might be a little slow but I know that others use it.

Ditto Elkman IMR4350 is very consistent in 300 Win and Wby.

H 1000 is an excellent powder for the 300 Winchester Magnum. I used it exclusively with my Model 70 Laredo LRH. For 180 grain bullet, you can start at 79 grain and maxed at 83. I reach 3000 fps with 180 grain Hornady BTSP with only 81 grains of H1000, and the accuracy is outstanding.

Tough to beat RL 22 in the 300 Win Mag. If you want to try a different powder, go with H1000.

I have considered IMR 4350 too. I have a ton of it considering I use it in most other calibers I load. I will probably get me some H1000 just for the fun of it since I've never used it and see what happens. CJ

I have used RL22 H1000 and RL 25 with equally great results.

Mine likes them pretty hot!!!! I also find my most accurate bullet is the 180 Seirra BT, I use Nosler PT for hunting!!

mine loves RL22. with 180partions. i think the only way i change from RL22 is if they quite making it.

With heavy bullets "220gr hornadys" I use IMR7828SSC. H1000 with 180gr Etips. Both of the 300winmags i have right now, do not like H4350-re22. One is ok with IMR4831 and 200gr partitions.

ReLoder 17 wouldn't be my first choice in the 300 WM, especially with heavier bullets. Poorer case fill and less velocity at safe chamber pressures.
