.300 Win Mag

I'd be interested in your results with H1000. I have a guy that would like me to reload a 3000 WM to 06' velocitys for his son. He has bought supplies including h1000 and IMR 4350 and interlock bullets. I told him to come use my press and tools but it seems he would rather just have me do it. I was thinking of starting around 72. Gr of H1000 should put a guy in that 2800 fps range. His rifle is also a tikka .

THis is from an article in Handloader Magazine #44 July-August by the late John Wooters called stairstep loading the magnums.

.300 Win. Mag.
Bullet weight 30-06 .308WCF 30-40 Krag 30-30
150gr. 62.0gr./4894 30.0 gr./4895 56.0gr/4064 45.0 gr./4064

180gr. 57.0gr/3031 55.0 gr./4064 50.0/4895 no data

H1000 is probably way too slow for making up lighter loads in the .300 Win. Mag.

I hear ya Paul, this guy does not want to use powder that he hasn't bought. I have quite a bit of powder selection here my self but he wants to use his own. His son is a big kid at 17 and already shooting a 30-06 with full house loads. His father wants his gun back lol, thus trying to duplicate the 06 velocity. I see Hodgdon data with H1000 down to 70 grs with a 180 gr bullet. I still
May convince him to switch powders.

I had decent groups with IMR4350 and Barnes TTSX 180gr. and then better with H4831SC.

I then switched bullets and have been having good results with H4831SC and Nosler 200 gr. PT's I am just in the process of fine tuning the load. I will post the results when I can.
