Here is my Savage 300Win Mag I am working with and developing loads for this hunting season. I have use the 300Win in a Model 70 Super Grade in 93-95 and a 300Win Mag in a Ruger MK II Stainles from 97-2001 and loved them. Actually liked it better than my 300Wby cartridge and it is pretty even with how I feel about the 300Win Mag and the 30-06.

I have decided to build on my load work and hunting experience using the 300Win Mag with this Savage 116 FHSS (Accutrigger/Accustock) with a Bushnell 4200 with a Weaver 20MOA base and Weaver tactical rings, for this years hunting so I can finish an article I started two years ago.

This rifle will be fully capable of letting me hunt in any weather. I won't have to worry about rain on my rifle or my scope fogging up about the time I want to take a shot, which has happened to me down here in South Mississippi and I did not get my scope clear of the condensation in time to take the shot on a gas line right of way. Will be practicing out to 600yds with GB300wm for longer shots this year.

But hear are some pictures of the rifle and targets to show where I am at the moment with more targets and load info to follow in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

Nice looking 300. The 300 Win is a great cartridge when loaded with a 180/200g bullet. Congrats on the new rifle. What are you planning to shoot through it?

By the way, I have not seen those base and rings by Weaver before. Where did you find it and how much are they? I"m in the market for a few 20 MOA bases as I wanna make the switch to them on all my 700's.

Good looking setup, Mike. You have the right equipment to tackle about anything with that rig. I do like the Savage.

It is not favoring the heavier bullets at the moment but in about another 200 rounds are so through this rifle it just might get friendly toward the 210 Berger and 208 A-Max.

165gr Sierra HPBT using H1000 at 3118fps five shot group I pulled the 2nd and 3rd rounds and called them when I did trying to get use to the Accutrigger.

165gr Sierra HPBT using H1000 at 3123fps five shot group and I pulled the 1st round and called it, still the trigger but I am getting better with it.

Will be doing more load work and need to hurry to have my self ready for hunting season. The trip I take to GB300wm's place to shoot 400, 500 and 600 is a biggy, I need to be ready with a load.

SWFA has them, forgot the price, bought them about a month ago.

Thanks Mike, it seems to be doing well at the moment but have not been loading very long for it. It does show promise.

Sure looks like it is trying to shoot! It took ma a long time to get used to the accutrigger on my savage, but now I love it.

Bet with some more load development it will be a tack driver.

jmad, that is what I am thinking. I will finally get use to the trigger and I think this rifle will produce some mighty fine consistent accuracy.

Mike,

She is a shooter! Nice looking rig.

That is a nice set up! If you dont mind me asking what base did you use? I couldnt find a weaver when I had my steves mod. 200. I would say the 165 is your ticket. Deer and even elk wont know the difference. CL

That rifle looks great Mike, and the 300 Winnie is a great round. I love mine. I haven't did a whole ton of loading for it really. Tryed some 165's and they shot decent, then I switched to 200gr Sierra's and those shot pretty good, now I have gotten my hands on some 200gr Noslers, so now I think I will make one final load for mine and call it a day. I was able to get 2950 out of the Sierra's so I am hoping to get into the 2900 range with the PT's. If accuracy is decent, I will stick with that load forever. It is kind of one of those boring loads, cause I know it will work for anything I ever hunt in NA. Not a whole lot of wondering about it. Scotty

Oh, I like that ring, base and scope combo you have on there. That looks like something I would like to have on my new .257 rifle, whatever it ends up being! Scotty

These are Weaver 20MOA and I got them at SWFA

Nice!!! I like the combination of stainless and composite, it really does create an all weather rifle that requires little maintenance in the field. My 300 likes 70+ grains of 4350 with 180 gr. Seirral BT. You might give that I try, typically sub 1/2 groups when I am on. Good luck hunting season is near.

Elkman, are we talking IMR4350 or H4350? Yes, I have some and when you clear up for the type of 4350 I would like to try it. I also want to try it behind the Nosler Partition and AccuBond I have in 180gr. Thanks, and good luck hunting to you also. :)
