Well gunsmith called last week and the new 300WSM was ready also the 35whelenAI. So for the last couple of weeks been getting alot of shooting in and forming cases for the AI.

I decided on using R-17 max loads with 165gr bullet was 68gr/R-17 @ 3217fps. Best accuracy was around 66.5 to 65gr need to shoot those loads at 200/300yds before deciding on which one be best.

I did manage to chrono the ones that shoot pretty good groups as follows:

66.5gr/R-17 with 165gr AccuBond @ 3200fps
66gr/R-17 with 168gr E-Tip @ 3159fps
66gr/R-17 with 165gr TSX @ 3208fps
66gr/R-17 with 165gr Rem @ 3101fps
65gr/R-17 with 165gr AccuBond @ 3128fps
65gr/R-17 with 168gr E-tip @ 3170fps
65gr/R-17 with 165gr TSX @ 3177fps

with those above loads I could get 5/6 firing just neck sizing with Wilson dies at the range so case life be good with those loads.

The 35WhelenAI Nolser got a max load of 58gr/IMR4064 with 225 AccuBond @ 2805fps. With a load of 60.5gr/IMR-4064 and 225gr AccuBond Hi was 2806fps low was 2794fps and it's a good accurate load in that rifle. Don't really think I got that much gain in velocity but was a fun project.

One thing is certain: there won't be a bunch of the 35 Whelan AIs at the range. It does sound like a fun project. Will we be seeing some pictures soon?

...........................RL17 does make a barrel grow longer!!! Your velocity #s are very good and should be expected from RL17.

67.7 gr RL17 behind a 168 gr Berger "hunting" VLD averaged 3042 fps from my 16.5" barreled 300 WSM Ruger Frontier compact carbine. Kinda made my shorty barrel grow in stature a little!

30-338. Very nice results.
165gr AB at 3200 should be a formidable all round load. I believe it's this kind of performance that will cause the 300 WSM to grow in popularity over time.

As for the 35 Wheelin AI; breaking 2800 with a 225 gr bullet, out of a reworked 30.06 case if very impressive. Good Job!!
