I have had a hell of a time finding .308 winchester brass. None of the big on line outfits had any. I tried the shooters proshop . Would love to have tried some of the nosler brass, But its dissapeared.
I finaly got some Laupa on order from Midway. .60cents apiece.
I have used lots of winchester in the past.
I just wonder how much differnt my loads will shoot. I have noticed that Remington .308 brass is much heavier then winchester, and that the december issue of handloader magazine, has an interesting article on reloading the .308.
One of the charts showed how many loadings fired in each brand of case before failure.
Remington got up to 20 loadings, winchester got to 14 lapua got to 16.
Nosler got to 11.
I am more concernrd about consistancy and acuracy.
some guys say I will soon be spoiled by lapua. I will soon see.
I hope this is all a temporary problem beacuse I have 3 .308s.
But with the army and marines bringing back the m-14, it may be a problem for awhile.

An Uncle of mine, who is a world class benchrest shooter swears by lapua brass. He says it is the most consitant there is, and recommends it for bench shooting.

You will need to back off on your load and work back up when switching from WW to Lapua cases. The WW cases have more volume than the Lapua but you can reach the velocity you had with your WW cases with less powder in the Lapua.

I know the problem with finding 308 cases. I found 200 once fired LC match cases that have turned out to be very good. The only problem I had with them was the prep. I have a tight neck 308 and I felt like I needed a lathe to turn the necks of those THICK LC cases. It took three turnings to get them down where they needed to be smoothly.

Best to start low and work up.

For the .308 Winchester, choice of brass is not so simple. Most of the .308 Win precision shooters we've interviewed do prefer Lapua brass, but others are very happy with Norma, Winchester, Hornady Match and even Remington. Black Hills uses Winchester-made brass for its match ammo, which is capable of .5 MOA or better in many rifles. The main advantage of Lapua brass is consistency and quality. Case-wall thickness is very uniform and most lots have shown less variation in weight than other headstamps. But Winchester brass performs very well in the .308. And, at $24/100, Winchester costs 40% less than Lapua brass. Even if you can potentially get more loadings out of a Lapua case, Winchester brass offers more bang for the buck. You'll find a lot of once-fired Federal Gold Medal Match brass available. While it tends to shoot accurately, we've found GMM brass is relatively soft compared to Lapua or Winchester, so the primer pockets tend to loosen up after just three or four reloadings.

I had the same problem. Been shooting Hornady match for a couple years now and it has performed well. Have heard the newer batches are not as nice.

I had to order from Midway (won a $100 gift certificate from there  ) so I just ordered Lapua along with some Nosler bullets. Time to start all over for my T/C Encore in .308win

either last july or july of '07, at thunder valley range in ohio, Tom Sarver shot a 5X, 50 that measured just over 1.4" at 1000 yards. He was shooting lapua brass, 338 LM shortenened and fireformed to a cal. called the 300 Hulk. his brass was on its 58th firing when he shot that group.
I buy lapua brass for anything that its available for. my current build was gonna be a 204 until I found out lapua made 20 tac brass, so it was chambered in 20 tac.

I got 100 lapua brass from midway and then Sportsmans wharehouse got some winchester.
I bought 100 of them too.
I did a little inspectiong ,and no question the lapua is more consistant in weight.
they were both very good in length.
The lapua is heavier, so I backed off 1 grain.
