I have been playing with the Idea of working up a load for my 2 .308s. Both are pre 64 winchesters, one is a model 70 featherweight and the other , a model 88.
I notice that the balistic tip and the acubond both have a BC of .475.
Seems to me a guy would get prety similer impact points with the 2 bullets using the same load.
Advantage being the balistic tip is quite abit cheaper and a great deer bullet, and a guy might be able to switch to accubonds for elk and still be sighted in.
I am puting together a load of 46 grains of Win-748 under the 165 grain balistic tip.
Both rifles seem to like W-748. I have to seat just a pinch deeper for the lever , and one thing I want to find out is will the load seated for the lever shoot well in the bolt gun.
Then to try the same with the acubond.
What do you think, will the 2 bullets shoot to about the same point of aim ?

Sometimes...but usually it won't work.

Even 2 identical rifles will often have a different POI with the same load

+1 to what Ridgerunner665 said.
Chances are you will have to load for each rifle as individuals.

Let me ask the Question better.
I recognize that Two rifles will not likly shoot the same. A better question is will each rifle, likly shoot the 2 bullets to the same point of impact.
In other words, will a load of, for example 46 grains of Winchester 48 , in a winchester case lit with a Fed 210M primer , be likly to put a 165 grain acubond and a 165 grain balistic tip into more or less the same place.
This way , I could practice and hunt deer with the Balistic tip , and switch over the the acubond for elk hunting. With out changing zero.
The BC is the same and the bullets in my opinion should travel at about the same velocity.
If it works, I can buy about 3 boxes of balistic tips and one box of accubonds and be set for lots of shooting.
And , if it works for one of my .308s it might also work for the other and mabye work in my 06.
Ok the odds of it working in all three rifles are abit slim but if it does work lest say in my Model 70 , I can use the one rifle for hunting both deer and elk with out working up a seperate load.
I could of corse then try that load in my 88 and I might get lucky , but likly have to use a different powder or seating depth, but might still be able to switch only the bullet , to go from derr hunting and plinking to elk hunting.
. I hope that is a better explanation...tjroberts.

The BC may be the same (and the BC of the Ballistic Tip is lower than advertised...closer to .435)...but bullet construction is very different, so are the barrels on the rifles.

Still won't work...sorry.

Some here are able, but very seldom can I replace a B-tip with an A-bond and have the same point of impact out of the same gun.

The short answer is No. The bullets are different in design and may shoot close to the same POI, but most likely will not shoot to the exact POI.

I would suggest you practice with BT's and re zero with AB's for hunting.
Or buy AB seconds (maybe catch a sale at SPS and buy 10 bags) and just shoot the AB's.

Well, it depends.
In my .308 the 150 BT/AB shoot pretty close to the same point of impact, within an inch. Of course the BT's shoot a much smaller group. With my .270's, the 140's shoot anywhere from the same point of impact, up to about 2" different.

The only way you will know is to try it in your gun.

Suggest the Sierra 165gr BTHP Gameking in the 308 Win.

The jacket is thicker than the Sierra BTSP.......harvested everything from Moose to Deer with this bullet.

46.0 of Varget and BR2 priimers in Lapua Case with 165gr AB

Reloader 15 or Varget works very well.

In my 308 the 150 grain BT's and Accubonds shoot to the same spot at 100
yards. I use the BT's to sight in and the Accubonds for mule deer and pigs.

These bullets work interchangably also in my 30-40 krag and 30-06.

I haven't tried them at greater ranges on targets, but they are sure minute
of deer.

For all the replies.
Seems like it pobably a bit of a long shot. I have not ben able to shoot for awhile as I have hurt my back.
But I had a cortizone shot , and feel alot better.
I am a little leary still , cause as bad as it hurts to sneeze recoil might be a real bitch.
I have a 3rd .308 now, I loaded it up with 150 grain bullets as its a kimber and light as a feather. It does have a good pad though.
I spent a fair chunk of dough on this Kimber so I gotta tryer out !

i would load up some ammo, go to range and sight in each rifle to the same point of aim. then switch to the other ammo. you have to try it, to find out.
