338-06 thoughts??

No since it's got it's own slightly different head diameter but practically I would consider them very similar.
Interesting in that the real world difference of the head diameter between the .470" of the 9.3x62mm and the .473" of the 30-06 is on paper rather than reality.
As an example:

US manufactured commercial brass measures a bit larger, but I've not seen any larger than .470"

I was alwaays kind of interested in the .318 Westley Richards, a cartridge both praised and damned by the late John Taylor in this book African Rifles and Cartridges, Interesting case is the 338-06 for all practical purposes is just a clone of the .318WR. What one will do, so will the other. About the only difference is a slight difference in bullet diameter.

Started messing with my 338-06 a few days ago. I used 30-06 Lapua brass and expanded everything up. Worked slick. Loaded 50 rounds with a bunch of random stuff I had on my 338 shelf. Turns out I had a small stash of Hornady 225 Interlocks and 225 Speer BTSP's. Had a single, lonely pound of 4064 on the shelf and loaded everything with 52 grains in order to smooth out the rebore.

I think it'll be a decent shooting rifle. I was firing 10 rounds, then cleaning it back to bare metal and repeating. The rebores usually shoot well, but they aren't lapped so they can take a little shooting to get smooth. By the time I shot the last ten, it cleaned up pretty quick, couple wet patches of KG12 and done.

Probably going to try out some 225 AB's or something like a 250 Grand Slam once I get back to it. Pretty nice shooting rifle as the laminate is fairly heavy.

Nice rifle Scotty. Looks like she is going to be a shooter.

Handsome rifle, Scotty. The laminate looks good, and it does appear to want to produce for you.

It seems like it'll be good. Nice to shoot. Can't ask for an easier cartridge to load for in my book. Seems like a pile of common powders will work.

Nice looking rifle Scotty and looks to be a shooter. Ben sure likes his and does well on deer for him. Dan.

Sweet rifle Marine! I am discovering the same thing with my new baby...it's like it aims to please.

Here is the rifle. It is ready to be fired. I'm hoping next weekend to put a few rounds through it.

Definitely a handsome rifle. Of course, I really like the Featherweight lines. (y)

Very nice!
Congratulations on your new Featherweight.

Beautiful Teach! My favorite Mod 70! I have a nice one (not as pretty as your stock!) I had my 25" Shilen #2 7x57 built on.
