338 cal

I realize this is an old post but , I think for any standard or long action, the 338 Norma would make a good choice. Shorter COAL, long neck, and the long 300 grain bullets aren't seated too deep in the case. It's a well designed case. But then again, I like Lapua brass a lot better for long life usefulness.

Has anyone considered the problems converting the 270 with the small bolt face and magazine problems? Or the longer actions required by most of the 338's mentioned?

I have converted/rebarreled a half dozen rifles to different calibers now and the 270 is not a good jumping off point for any 338 other than a 338-06 IME

I built a rifle in 338-06AI on a 270 Pre-64 and am pretty impressed at the result.
