I have a load for my little Ruger Hawkeye SS with Federal factory 338F ,once fired brass, and 52gr of TAC and BR2 primer for a tad over 3000K! I called and spoke with a Barnes Bullets Tech today and he told me I was good to go with this combo on elk, even out to 600yds! ha Well, that's about twice as far as I would ever lob a shot on one, but he did say I could hold dead center of the shoulder at this speed. I know most folks use heavier bullets and I even asked about the 185TSx, but he said I "was good to go" as I am! I like that as I hunted with a 338 Win Mag for years and this little M77 is much lighter, more responsive and far easier to shoot! It should make a good companion to my 35 Whelen AI for elk hunts. I've killed a lot of game with Barnes bullets, from .22 through 35 caliber ( 375 if you consider the same principle with win Failsafe's) I feel real confident with it. That TAC is Jet Fuel! :)

Sounds like a great elk round to me, always did like the barnes bullets for accuracy and performance.

I like the fact I can use it for deer and elk w/o a lot of fuss, especially since it is a SS synthetic model, let the drizzle/sleet and snow rip! :)

I can't see any fuss in your future with that combo for deer and elk.

I'm using a Barnes 185 grain .338 bullet as my all around bullet. Same principle proves that those of us with great minds think alike. [emoji846]

My SIL used this rifle for deer one year and that 185TSX, it worked swell. His buddy used the same load in his 338F tikka and shot a big spike bull elk with it the same year. I used to use the 185XLC in my 338 Win Mag....many have told me "you might as well use a ( name it, 308, 300winmag) if you're going to use that light of weight...they never consider the bigger diameter and the retained weight and those cutting petals! To me this 160TTSX is just perfect for the 338F. Heck, my first try with it I used MR2000 and got 2700fps, Barnes said that load was good to 400yds on elk! ha
