338 lapua surprise!

I'm looking forward to the pictures, Corbin. I've been contacted to do work on a 338 Edge. It sure would be nice to have the 300 grain AB available now!

The 338 300 gr AB will be out soon, real soon.

It'll be cool to see them. I saw the press while I was at Nosler. It'll be really cool to put my hands on a few of them. Scotty

Do it, Brian!

Corbin, what scope do you have mounted up?

Vortex viper 6.5-20x50

I was already thinking a 4X20-50mm Minox would be a great scope for the new 338, whenever I happen to find one.

Scotty,

You thinking of a 338 Lapua? 338 RUM? 338 Edge? 338-378 Wby?

Jim, if I was to buy a big 338 it would be the Lapua like Corbin has or the same Savage with the HS Precision stock on it. It would really be more of a play rifle than a strict hunting rifle I think. I don't see myself humping it around the timber much. It would give me flashbacks of humping a LAW as a young lad- Light Antitank Weapon-

I just wanna fun rifle that could be used for target and double as a good rig to hunt with if such a scenario ever developed.

Well guy's I finally got out to the range today. But there was a pretty nice cross wind at around the 10-12 MPH mark. Regardless of the wind I still gave her a few shots to see what it would do. The target is 515 yards away. I dialed 9.5 moa and was hitting 11 inches high at this distance. I didnt have a tape measure with me so I had to bend this brush and measure when I got back home. It measured in at 5.2 inches at 515 yards with right at 16 rounds down the tube. These are still the 285 grain hornady bullets.

Man, that 285 must have a high B.C. Hornady listed the speed at around 2700 fps. You probably pushing it a bit more than that if you're 11 inches high at 515 yards.

Not too shabby bro!

And you have not even found the holy grail of loads yet.

I have entered all the data into my exbal program and it says I am doing 2978 fps. its time to put her through the crony. The B.C. is .720

At 510 yards, I needed 9.0 MOA with 300 grain SMK at 2000 ASL. Velocity is around 2850 fps. I would like to try this new Hornady and push it around 3K and see what kind of performance I can get with my 9.3 twist barrel.
