For those interested I shot this bear on 5/20/11 with a 338 RUM and a 225 gr. AB. He had a live weight of 335 lbs. The first shot , from 40 yards entered beside the backbone and exited behind the front shoulder a bit high. He went down rolled around a bit then got up and staggered off. I could see a huge hole in his off side. Even though he wasn't going anywhere I put another in him from behind . I never did find the entrance hole for that shot but I found the bullet on in the opposite shoulder from the exit hole. The bullet weighed 132.2 grs. that's about 59% weight retention.

Congratulations. I would say that bullet did a great job! It held together and did everything it was supposed to do at almost max muzzle velocity! You have to love those Accubonds :!:  Very nice bear!

That is an extreme test for a bullet; it held up well. Good looking bear you have there. He will provide some excellent table fare.

Excellent! Congratulations on a great bear.
Nice looking 700 LSS, I have the same rifle. The 338 RUM is very impressive on game.

Excellent bear! Wow, what a great hide on him.

Holy smokes on excellent bullet performance. What an awesome score being able to recover a bullet from the 338RUM. Probably won't happen very often! Man, that is awesome though, it has to breed alot of confidence in the RUM/AB combo. Excellent shooting. Scotty

That bear has a great hide on him! I can't believe the fat that is on him as well. The one I shot last week might of had half that! Those 225 AB are a great bullet for sure!

Nice bear and rifle! I see a 338 something in my safe in the near future.

How near are we talking? Just wondering what the hold up is. I'm pretty sure one of those Extreme Weather M70's would look pretty good in the safe and you won't have to practice carrying logs in order to shoulder it! Scotty

Scotty you have the hook almost set in me for the 338 win mag. Gonna try and get loose and stick with a light 300RUM. Man I really like those M70 Extremes. Not gonna happen before we go Elk hunting.

Those EW M70's are pretty sweet rifles. No need to talk too much about the 338WM, awesome cartridge. Scotty

Ah, your young bride is very understanding! You can always blame it on me. Once I get the loads worked out for the 338WM, I will bring it down so we can do some shooting. I really dig this new stock. Hoping it really likes the rest of the rifle! Scotty

Great bear! The results look awful close to the same load going through an elk. Great combination for sure.
