What bullet weights are you looking at in the 338 RUM?
I have had excellent results with RL 22, RL 25 and Retumbo.

You are going to love the raw power an accuracy from the 338 RUM. It crushes game, a sight to behold!

Here are my loads for the 225 gr AB and 250 gr AB. These are safe in my M700 LSS, start low and work up.

225 gr Nosler AB
RL25 96.0 grs
best 3 shot group @ 100 yds .567"

250 gr Nosler AB
Retumbo 98.6 grs
Avg MV 2937 fps
*best 3 shot group @ 100 yds .412"

str8meat, Agree with JD on the RL22. I've also used 84 grains of IMR4350 with a 225 AccuBond and group well under an inch. velocity is just under 3000FPS. Recoil is sharp but tolerable. The ultramag is definitely a game stomper. I've never seen Elk drop so quick.

Such mass at those velocities would have to be a real shock to any game that was hit with the bullet.

Every animal I have shot with the 338 RUM has dropped at the shot, they hit the ground hard and never moved!

Ditto JD338.
My load is a little hotter but still sub MOA. I don't have the actual group size anymore. I accidently laid my load book up by the muzzle brake and it turned into confetti.

225 gr A/B
RL 25 = 100 grs.
CCI 250 primers
R/P brass
OAL 3.63"
3116 FPS

The elk got 30 yds and collapsed from the 160 yd. shot.

As a 338RUM owner, I'll chime in as well. I have loads for the 200ET, 225AB, 250AB. Here are my loads:

200ET:
93gn of IMR7828SSC
GM215M
COL: 3.620
Fed brass trimmed to 2.74

225AB: (still needs some refining)
90gn of RL22
GM215M
COL: 3.640
Fed brass trimmed to 2.74

250AB:
101gn of Retumbo
GM215M
COL: 3.640
Fed brass trimmed to 2.74

Rich,

Those are some fine groups. They look like game in the freezer.

Thanks, the 200ET did an excellent job on a CA blacktail last fall and even though I didn't list it, I did have a so-so load with the 225TSX (no E-Tips at that time) that took a CA hog.

Where do you get Federal 338 RUM brass?

This load is a little too hot, I lose primer pockets on the 3rd firing

So I am now at 94 gr RL25 with a velocity around 3075 fps.

I got the Fed 338 RUM nickle brass from Graf & Sons. They no longer carry it so I'm glad I bought 300 pieces. It was primed so I now have a lot of standard Fed 215 primers.

SOmetimes I wish I had went with Remington brass, atleast I can still get that. Oh well.

I bought a bag of the Federal brass from my local dealer, 100 pcs nickle plated and primed for $68.00. I should have bought a second bag. It was a limited run from Federal.
