Henry 243 long ranger load data needed

Is this the tool that you use to check the bump?

Called a headspace comparator for 243

I only had 10 ( on the left) that chambered ok out of this batch

So I will take one of the ones that don’t and move it down 1/8 of a turn to see where it goes ( is that bumping the shoulder then?

Thanks Jer

I see you can take this apart ( thanks YouTube).

So leave the expander ball out now?

Ok I got one case to fit.

I had to rotate 3/8 turn.

So do I put the neck sizer back in and do that one again and then try a few more.

I have a turret press so I think I have to do the brass first, back the die out so it can go all the way up to do the rest of the stations ( powder and seating )

IS THAT CORRECT?

Just using it like a single stage at this point though.

Thanks Jer

Well that was short lived.
*+*^^***^*%^%#^^
Still getting some where the brass goes in fine but when I seat the bullet at the same setting ( everything) some don’t work

All cut to the same length WT^*%%%%#

This is absolutely obsurd

Now I have another stuck case in the frogging die

I think this one shot is useless

Sure liking bow hunting… way less hassles

I run the shell up first

Thread the die down until it touches the case

Then I backed it out a half turn.

Then I locked it down.

Put in the one that I did the blue lock tight on because that’s at the stick position.. ran it up.

Then I threaded down until I made contact with the ogive.

Then I dropped the bullet out

Ran the new powdered case in and seated the bullet.

Measured and it was the same.. so I dropped it down and threaded the seating part down to try to get .002 more for clearance.

Got that and it wouldn’t work

So I tried another .002

Still wouldn’t work

So then I repeated this process with the federal bullet that worked and set everything so my bullet would match.

The first one worked but barely and the next one didn’t.

So I am going to measure the bullets at the neck and check the federal and see if there’s a difference.

Thanks team
Jer Bear , how you're finding the lands , only works with that exact same bullet . you need to find the lands with every bullet you're loading . lets say you're going to be shooting nosler ballistic tips and partitions , hornday sst's and sierra game kings . you'll need to find the lands with each of these bullets . chances are every one will be a different length .

there is a small variance in bullets . you're saying you set your die to the touch the lands length , then set the die to seat the bullet .002" deeper . there can easily be .002" difference in bullets . I would start out with more jump . I would start out at .020" jump , "IF" your magazine allows the ammo to be loaded that long . with a .020" jump this will be enough for bullet variance allowing your ammo to chamber . if your magazine is too short for that length ammo , load to magazine length .

Gotter out

I took a fired Starline case. I then took a Partition ( same ones I am using- 100 grain Nosler).

I made sure the bullet would slide easily.

I then put a drop or two of blue locktite in the neck

Slid the bullet in LONG

Slid it in the chamber carefully.
I levered the shell in carefully and closed it and let it sit in there for 20 minutes.

I took it out and measured it with a Hornady ogive comparator.

Then I had my lands length.

Then I took out the expander ball and set the die flush and lubed a NEW UNFIRED case and the die.

I let it dry for 5 minutes using one shot.

Then I ran the case in barrel and it wouldn’t go.

I screwed down 1/8 turns and it took three 1/8 turns to get it to fit the chamber.

I then cleaned the lube off

Then I cut it to length chamfered and reemed the inside.

Then I powdered it to 39.5 grains of IMR 4350.

Then I put the case up in the seating die ( with the die long) and turned down the die until it touched the case and backed it off half a turn.

Then I put a bullet in the case and ran it up enough the barely seat the bullet.

Checked length and kept it 20 thousands off the lands

That wouldn’t go.. so if you look back at my pictures you will see what locktite bullet ogive was and what I got to work.

So I thought I was set… did two bullets fine and was relieved and the 3rd didn’t work and the fourth and fifth didn’t work.

At a loss for words…. I changed nothing.

So here’s a comparison of what worked and what didn’t.

Here’s the info off the blue locktite bullet

You can see I am way off the lands

Locktite ogive is 2.2775 and neck was .276

Mine that worked was 2.229 and neck was .272

And even the case length is fine

😩😩

I feel like part of your problem is the turret press but I could be wrong. I’ve only ever used a single stage but I’ve also never had problems like you are experiencing. I’ve never heard of the loctight method you are using and for sure haven’t tried that myself so I can’t say how accurate that might be. The Hornady tool might be best for you at this point? I use Lee collet neck dies, I can partially squeeze a neck down to hold a bullet with light tension. That’s how I find the lands.

Just google “ three ways to find the lands”

The problem with the Hornady tool is that it’s a generic shell case not one that actually works in you rifle.

Option is to get one of your fired brass tapped… I don’t have that option.

Now they used red locktight but blue works too just have to be careful with it

Here’s the link

One last question… can you just neck size when you use a lever gun like mine?

Read two articles and one said no and one said yes😩
