338 Win Mag

IMR 4350 and H4350 and L 19 worked the best in my 338. We will see what the Ruger 1S likes.

I'm not as skilled as the majority of the members here but this is what I mustered up yesterday at the range w/my 338. These were with Winchester Supreme 200gr CT Ballistic Tips.

Now this is a thread I can use. I shoot the 210 Fed Partition out of mine and get great groups...for me anyway (~.8 MOA; yes ~ some lower; more higher).

I used the Winchester CT 200 grain Ballistic Tip to take a deer with it (and a rabbit). But I can't remember how it grouped

I like the way you guys put your favorite recipes down.

Reloading is my next phase.

Now I remember how it groups!!!!

That group demonstrates both the rifle and shooter are capable of excellent accuracy.
Good shooting factory load too.

I like the 338WM alot. Mine has always been accurate and plenty of juice for anything I plan on hunting.

Here was my initial load work with the 275gr Speers and RL22.

I am looking forward to seeing how the mighty 250gr PT's work out. Hoping for over 2700 and MOA accuracy. I am thinking I should get there pretty easily and I believe I will have a load for everything, well, besides my 275gr Dinosaur load! Scotty

kildeernow,

Fine group that will stand you in good stead with that rifle/load combination. Great posting.

Anyone tried the 78.0 of RL 19 with the 225gr in the 338 Win ?

I noticed the same load in Handloader Magazine as well as Alliant load data website.

I have ran that load with RL19 a few times with 225's. Never ran to 78 as I got 2900 at 76 grains in my rifle. Also ran 2900 with RL17 last year. That was a great load as well with PTs and BBCs.

I used the older Barnes 185 XLC in a 338 Winmag on a cow elk with great results. I "tried to use" R19 with its initial load. The temp dropped from 60 deg ( when I had worked up the load) to 10deg a few days befor emy Decemebr hunt. I checked my zero/loads and they were all over the place and almost 200 fps slower. I went home, pulled the bullets and the R19 was a solid cake. Yes, it was a compressed load, but I had to scrape it out with a screw driver. I loaded them back up with h4350 and the rest is history. It forever spooked me for R19 in cold temps! I used the Barnes 210 XBT in a 340 Weatherby on zebra/gemsbuck/impala just fine, and the 180 AccuBond in a 338 RUM on a big west texas aoudad. Your 200BT are about perfect in your 338WM, and when you start handloading, the 180 AccuBond would be a good one. For a screamer, the Barnes 160 TTSX is worth trying out. I get it a tad over 3000fps from my little 338 Federal and TAC. There will be those you run into in deer camps, etc that will say "you don't need that cannon"! Just smile and say "I know, You don't "need" anyone's opinion either", ha. Have a ball man.

Preacher,

Great line.
Said with a smile I can imagine the response I'd get.

You have to do it with a smile Uncle Vince :), or you would wear yourself out trying to explain what is really Private. It's no one's business what a free citizen wants to use, right? ha. I got out of the Army in '73. that Fall I hunted with a new BAR 7mm Rem Mag. I caught all kinds of grief for it. 20yrs later, the woods were full of hunters with 7mm Rem Mags! ha
