340Wby for Deer

Can some of you guys give me some idea of what to expect from a 180 of 200gr BT on whitetail deer here in the south. My main gun is a M70 300wsm with 150gr ABs & it's great but, I would like to put some field time on the 340. I also reload, so I can work up or down if need to.

Welcome to the forum.

The 180 gr and 200 gr AB in your 340 Wby will kill like lighting.
I would recomend going with the 210 gr PT or 225 gr AB in your 340 Wby.
I have used my 338 RUM on WT Deer, kills with the 250 gr PT are spectactular.

I shot my buck last year with a 225 gr. AccuBond out of a 338 win mag and was pretty happy with it. My buck this year was shot with a 260 gr. AccuBond out of a 375 ruger. I don't plan on hunting deer every year with the 375 but just wanted some field time with it before my elk season started. I would lean towards the 225 gr. bullets just becasue they won't be going as fast and damage as much meat. but that is just me.

Welcome to the forum buddy, Glad to have you.
I can give one recommendation on your request. If you're going to reload to full 340 WBY potential then you must use a premium bullet. The 210 Partition come to mind. 8)

I've shoe several with the 338 Win Mag and 250 partitions, you wont be disappointed.

Let us know how it works out and remember if long range in not a variable you do not have to load it to max pressures. You can "338-06" your 340 Bee you know! 8)

I think you've got plenty of gun for the job for sure! :grin: A few of my hunting buddies also prefer to use just one rifle for mule deer, black bear and elk, so they tend to go with the bigger, badder cartridges too... More gun than necessary, but it sure works!
