Did a little work today with the 250 Woodleighs in the M71. Pretty awesome shooting bullets. I shot all at 100 yards with the rifle.

54 grains 2142, 2172, 2223, 2244 FPS

55 grains 2189, 2197, 2187, 2186 FPS

56 grains 2289, 2264, 2302, 2303 FPS

Pretty happy with all of them. I shot the last 56 grain load into the jugs. Seems like a good hunting load.

I also ran my load with RL17 and the 200 grain Hornady on paper, just to check. Still seems like it's on point and ready for hunting as well.

2595, 2650, 2607 FPS

Quite a difference in zero between the 200's and 250's, but everything seemed to print nicely.

Great afternoon with the M71. It is quickly becoming my favorite rifle!

I'm always impressed how accurate these lever guns are. Those are some very gratifying groups, Scotty.

Great shooting Scotty as usual!!! I can see some Deer Roast in your future with that rifle.

Scotty the way you can make those rifles group must really make it difficult to chose which one to take on a hunt.
Great shooting and thank you for the photos.

Blessings,
Dan

Thanks fellas. I really like this Model 71. It really is a pleasure to shoot. I can't wait to take it into the woods!

Nice gun and load, it seems that RL 17 is working very well for you in a number of cartridges.

Yep, took me awhile to come around, but the latest version of QL has shown me some new loads I've never seen in the past. It's like IMR/H 4350 with a little extra speed.

Great shooting. The .348WCF has always been some kind of an outsider in the Winchester lineup. However the huntingreports one can read of people who use it swear by it. This is one Winchester caliber I haven´t yet any experience with...Yet!.
Thanks for sharing & inspiration!.

If your eyes can see the sights, the Model 71 348 Winchester is a really cool hitter. Being the predecessor to the 358 Winchester, it really reminds you of the old school cases that were large and gently sloped. I'd dare say it is the best looking cartridge I own.

I hope your Newton didn't hear that comment! Man, that rifle could just quit shooting over comments such as that!

The Newton is no slouch in the looks department. It looks surprisingly modern compared to it's age.
