35 Cal bullets

I just saw Barnes is offering a 200gr TTSX for the .358 shooters! That would be a terrific bullet for the Whelen, 358 Win and 350RM! Hopefully Nosler follows suit or at least adds an ETip to their line up. I would really like to see a tough 200gr'er for the 35 calibers that we all love so much. Scotty

When Nosler offers the 200 grain AB and/or E-Tip, you may be assured that I will have a number of boxes of each in my supply cabinet. Either of the 358s in my gun safe shoot the 200 grain TSX very well. My 350 RM also prefers the 200 grain TSX. I cannot help but think that these rifles would do equally well with the Nosler bullets.

Remember.... In a Ruger 77 358 win (I guess it has a bit longer magazine) Bullet (MIKE) has has great success with the AB!

I am not in the lead free areas and my guns aren't fast twists so I still hope for a 358win/225gr/AB and a 35rem spicific 200gr/AB. I mainly hunt deer with the 358 but would like a better SD than my current Spire Point 200gr. And I do admit I would be hard to beat the CLRN in the 35rem but still dream of a small FP 200gr AB that was extermly fast to expand up front and tuff as nails in the mid section.

I have not yet measured my 700's mag length its a short action maybe the current AB will fit in there.

I would like to see a 225gr ETIP and then a 200gr AB PP for the littler cartridges. I guess it is all wishful thinking, as the 225gr - 250gr PT's works for all my stuff. The AB is too long for my Browning. Scotty

OK after checking out the current AB in 358 call I have this question. Did the 358 AB get changed to a spitzer sharpe like the PT? I always thoughtb it was shaped liked the 358 B-tip and was to long for most 358win rifles.

There has been no change in the 35 calibre, 225 grain AB. It is likely too long for the 358 Winchester. For a magazine that permits you to load the bullet out so it doesn't protrude into the powder, it will work. I have shot it in my 358 Hawkeye with good velocity and reasonable accuracy. I get better velocities and accuracy with other bullets, however, so I didn't pursue this. A 200 grain AB would be a great bullet for the 358 Winchester, however.

As long as they keep making 225gr Partitions I am happy. Other than a small price difference what is the advantage to using the AccuBond? I also don't see any advantage to going to a 200gr bullet in the 358. You don't gain enough velocity to make up for the loss of BC and bullet weight. I guess if all you were hunting was whitetails it wouldn't matter but the 358 is much more than a deer rifle.

Thats just it cost PT ares pretty spendy. The 350/358 need the 1.750' bullet length while the 35rem requires its own 200gr FT/RN bullet for its 2300fps to1900fps muzzle velocities depending on how you load it. My little 18.5" ported barrel on a 366D gets 2188fps out H4895 with the 200gr CLRN. It needs fast expantion on deer that the 220gr speer doesn't give. The 200gr has killed many many moose bear and deer so I still think its the best weight for the 35rem. A low cast bonded AB would all it would ever need for deer and black bear and an ocational elk or moose.

I agree the 200gr is to light for the other 35's (356/358/350/whelen) and hornady could replace their 200grSP with a 225gr Spire Point most would never miss it.

That would be nice if Hornady offered a 225 for the .358's. I am kinda surprised they don't as they have a decent selection and with their 200gr FTX, it seems they could drop the 200gr SPT and put a 225 in its place. Scotty

In a moment of madness, I bought a whole bunch of 150 gr. .35 caliber bullets made fo the .350 Rem. mag. at a gun show. A whole three pound coffee can full. :shock: I forgot I even had then until yesterday when I was looking for something else. I wonder how they'll work in my .358? Maybe I'll try them in the .35 Whelen too. Make a cool varmint bullet. :roll:

They should be really stepping out from your 358. With that shorter bearing surface, they should generate some great velocities. Varmints beware.

I use 225gr Sierras for deer and save the Partitions for bigger game in 358. They make a 200gr RN suitable for the 35Rem. At those velocities cup and core bullets should work fine, especially for deer. I only use the Partitions as insurance when I'm spending money to hunt. If you're pushing 200gr bullets at 2300fps out of a 35Rem you are way over pressure. I agree Hornady should make a 225gr. Their 200s work fine but I see no advantage to using them over the 225 Sierras.
