Well thanks to Scotty i decided to burn some powder in my whelen saturday and Sunday. It's always a good day to do that,Temps on Saturday were low 70's and Sunday low to mid 80's.I wanted to try the hornady 200 grainers, i have a couple hundred sitting around. My powders to try are as follows. Always RL-15 , Imr-4064 and Imr 8208 XBR (i am really loving the XBR ).I went with 3.200 col..R-P cases and trying CCi-250 . RL-15 was first.. as always great groups. But i was not satisfied with speeds. 3-shot group averaged 2680 fps with 63 grains. Next was IMR-4064. I have always liked the powder but have not used it lately (my stock is still in the old metal cans).Shot good groups but it too was slower than i wanted. 3 shot group 2739 fps with 61.5 grains. Then today (Sunday) got to try IMR-8208 XBR. This stuff is fast becoming a favorite. It is my new go to powder for.223 Remington.I not only got good groups but impressive speeds out of my classic Remington. 59.5 grains averaged 2838 fps. 59.8 grains averaged 2871 fps. No pressure signs and i am going to work with seating depths. All in all a good weekend with my favorite rifle. Lee

Those are some respectable groups, Lee. I'd think they'll make for game in the freezer this fall.

Very nice Lee. Those are all great groups but man, the Whelen with 8208 is kicking those 200's downrange quick! Great shooting!

It has to be a pump or semi-auto. Do those shoot well?

They can shoot very well. Now we're warming to the task. A Remington 7600 chambered in 35 Whelen can be an awesome weapon; it was chambered in 35 Whelen from 1988 to 1996. These still show up on used gun racks. This particular rifle was produced with a handsome maple stock and fore-end at one time. Both the 7400 and the 750 Auto have been chambered in 35 Whelen, the 750 Woodmaster so chambered until recently. The 7400 was chambered in 35 Whelen from 1993 to 1995. All these show up on used gun racks from time-to-time.

Nice work, IMR 8208 is working well for me too it looks to be a good one for 200 gr bullets. Great speed and accuracy can be excellent as well, in my custom gun the 200 gr AccuBond clocks in the mid 2800's with 57 gr and a CCI 250 primer.
