35 Whelen lead free loads

Hey all I'm new to the forum and the 35 Whelen. I am looking for some load info for lead free bullets. Currently Nosler doesn't make a lead free option for the 35 that I am aware of. Could anyone help with loads for 200 gr. TTSX or 225 gr. TSX? I use Varget for my 225 AccuBond loads and would like to use the same powder. I also have Big Game laying around if you have any data for that as well.

Thanks for the suggestion, Barnes load data is so out of date they don't even list the 200 gr. TTSX and there are very few powders listed for the bullets Barnes does list. RL 15 is the only one I can remember at present.

Here are some loads that have worked for me with 200's. With reasonable care you should be able to work up with the TTSX using Nosler's data for the 200 gr AccuBond. If you watch carefully as you work up you should be fine. Sadly I have not shot anything yet with the 200 gr TTSX, I have tried hard though. Black bears don't like the 200 gr AccuBond though

57 gr IMR 8208 - 200 gr AccuBond - CCI 250 - 2840 fps
57 gr IMR 8208 - 200 gr TTSX - CCI 250 and Rem 9 1/2 M ( a bit more speed than the AccuBond load, 2850 fps+)

I have worked up with Varget up to 61 gr with the AccuBond without trouble, in my old Whelen I used 60 gr with 225 gr Accubonds for 2760 fps so worked up 1 gr higher in the new gun with 200's. Not sure why Nosler's data with Varget and the 200's is lower than the 225 gr data. I worked up the load before they came out with the 200 gr data and was surprised to see the reduction. Have also done a bit of work with H 4895 but I didn't get the accuracy, you may though. I should also mention 61 gr Varget with the 200 gr AccuBond clocks 2810 fps in my gun.

Big Game seems to be a bit too slow burning for the lighter bullets, I found I topped out at 2600 fps with the 225 gr AccuBond. I use it for 250's where I got 2550 fps and good accuracy. I have also used Big Game for the 275 gr Woodleigh, it clocked 2460 fps. Once my 250's are gone I will likely only use 200's and 225's moose and grizzly will still go down nicely with those.

The whole "lead free" thing is becoming a reality for many of us.

Not yet, here in Washington for big game ammo, but I feel it breathing down my collar...

At this point everything and everywhere I hunt birds, I'm required to use non-lead shot, and the pressure has been applied to get the state to go that way for rifle ammo too...

So... I stocked up with some "unleaded" bullets in my favorite calibers... Just in case.

I did also work with Varget and the 225 gr TSX in my old Whelen, 58 gr for 2685 fps. Probably could have gone higher but it grouped well at that charge. Had good loads in the past with the same bullet using RL 15 and AA 2015. Took my biggest moose with enough AA 2015 and the 225 gr TSX to reach 2660 fps if my memory is right. Both of those powders shot almost any 225 gr bullet made from 2660-2715 fps.

I've run 200 grain TSX in my 350 RM, charged with 59 grains of IMR 4895 for 0.25 MOA accuracy at 2680 fps. It accounted for a fine elk, but I haven't used it much for the past couple of years. A 225 grain TSX charged with 61 grains of TAC yield 0.45 MOA and 2710 fps in the same rifle. I can certainly generate higher velocities with the 200 grain TSX, but accuracy is 1 MOA, which isn't bad. However, I like the accuracy.

I run the 225 grain TSX charged with A2520 for 2600 fps in my Whelen. I also have a loan with 200 grain TSX and RL15 for this rifle.

Welcome sir! I used H322 behind the old 200X and later the 200TTSX in a 35 Whelen Ackley for years. I was shooting 58grs (which was the Max load listed for the standard Whelen 200x in Barnes' original load manual). Now, today, to be safe in a standard Whelen, I would start around 51gr and work up in 1 grain increments until I needed to stop. I like to run any '06 based cartridge to the same pressures as the 270 Winchester. I don't always get there as sometimes accuracy and plenty of speed arrive first! However, unless I'm loading for a specific hunt, I like to get all the case design will safely give, be it standard or belted or a big RUM case. I have killed a lot of Plains Game with both the old 250X & 200X, and no reason the 200TTSX shouldn't work better. I've shot a lot of them, but so far haven't killed anything with the newer TTSX. Oh yeah, you may find that when using R15 a Magnum primer may tighten everything up, etc. Varget is wonderful in the whelen, I don't have any loads for it, but I used it a lot in the 9.3x62...same, same.
