Hello,
I just picked up my 4th Ruger black hawk in a 357 mag. always wanted one but never loaded for one does anybody have a favorite powder/bullet they would like to share.

I had good results with various jacketed hollow points and H110 in my 357Mag. Start low and work up, and be sure to use magnum pistol primers. H110 can be a little finicky, but I got good accuracy and plenty of thump (and a nice fireball at dusk) with mine.

If you're looking for a light plinker load, get some .38Spl brass and 148gr wadcutters. Load them over Hodgdon Clays as per Hodgdon's online data. I was able to get consistent 1.5-2" groups of six shots from a modified Weaver stance at 25yds. That was when I was going through a few thousand rounds annually in that revolver, but the last time I shot, I still got 3" at 20yds, with little to no practice.
 
My pet load for the .357 mag. is 14.0 gr. of Alliant #2400 under my home cast Lyman #358156 cast gas checked bullets. Never bothered to chronograph them but it is a max laod in some manuals. When hercules was making #2400, I used to load 15.5 r. and it was a good one that I shot from a 4" S&W M28 I once had. Took a big 250 pound hog with it in Big Sur California. I prefer #2400 over W296/H110 as the muxxle blast is slightly less and not quite as much flash. haaven't used W296 in the .357 but did some work with it in the .44 magnum. Either should probably do quite well in your .357. My bos (Head Instructor) has a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 mag. and I gave him a box of my reloads and now he's asking for more. :shock: 8) Guess he must have like them. :lol:

H110 or WW296 Which is the same powder and a 158 gr Jacketed HP or SP and use a firm crimp.
