Hello;

I am new to this Forum, so please bear with me :)

I would love to see Nosler load a couple of bullet weights
in .358 Shooting Times Alaskan, Do you see this any time soon ?

358STA,

Welcome to the forum. It is good to have you on board. I would think that there would be limited demand for loaded ammunition as this is primarily a handloaders cartridge. What about the 250 grain Partition in .358 loaded in the .358 STA? Also, do not discount the 225 Partition or the 225 grain AccuBond. Either would be a thumper. I would think there would be little demand for a 280 grain bullet, though it the .358 STA would handle it. Nevertheless, the Partition and the AccuBond are plenty tough for the velocities generated by the .358 STA. Of course, these are for handloads and not as custom ammunition.

I would not hesitate using the 225 Partition but I am not sure about the AccuBond, if it is anything like the Ballistic tip I wouldn't hunt with it. Before I had ordered the Ballistic tips I had called Nosler and asked if they would hold together at the velocities that the .358 STA is capable of pushing, they said the ballistic would do fine, So I had ordered a few boxes of Ballistic tip in .35 cal 225 gr. Worked up a nice load getting less then have inch groups! Pushing around 3100 fps
Well I went hunting Elk in Oregon around John Day and shot a nice 5x5 Bull elk knocked him down , well long story short I lost the Elk. I went to the rifle range and put a half inch wet telephone book and two 1/2 gallon milk jugs back to back! Shot two rounds and both bullets came apart lost the core and peeled back to the base! :cry:

AccuBonds are much tougher bullets than are the Ballistic Tips. You should have about 60 to 70 percent weight retention at the velocities you are generating with the .358 STA.

Yep, the Accubonds have the best properties of the Partition and the Ballistic Tip. They penetrate like the PT, but have the ballistics of the BT. I don't think a better all around bullet is made. It's all I use from my 270WSM to my 375RUM.

Nice to see another 35 cal shooter. As Rich and Mike said, the 225gr AccuBond would be a great long range thumper for the 358STA. I would think the 250 would be amazing at 358STA speeds. I shoot the 35 cal Speer 250 out of my Whelen at 2550 and it is excellent and the Partition would be more of a good thing. Sorry to hear about a lost elk. That is heartbreaking with the amount of work that goes into getting a good shot on one. Scotty

I shoot a 358 Norma mag and like other have said the AccuBond is a tough little bullet.
It's a bonded core so it acts like a Partition and sleek so it flies like a ballistic tip.
I would not hesitate to use it if my gun shot them well, but it does not.
It does not due well with any of the 225 gr weights from any company
It likes 250gr from Speer, Hornady and Nosler
So I'm stuck with a 250gr Partition.........elk beware
