Was very happy with my 358win is weekend. I had 30 rounds to fire so I had a batch of 50 casesto reload with 225gr PT's. I have suspected but can verify that my rile requires 15-20 rounds put through it to get to its accuray potenial.

I shot two 1.25" 3-shot groups at 200 yards with a 1.5-5 scope. One .5" two holer. This is with an old load using 200gr Spire pt, H322, Win brass, and a Fed 210M primer. Its set to crimp on the cannelure but there is some room to adjust the OCL. (2470fps)

This is the first time I shot the 358 win this year it was cleaned then polished with JB bore bright before it was oiled and stored for the season. After the first 15 rounds it found its consistant and tightest groups.

And now I have a batch of 50 cases to load up some 225gr partitions using H4895. Its the same load I use for the 225gr Hawk but the PT's get to 2430fps with the Hawks do not.

Impressive!

A 1.25" 200 yard group from a Thumper with the low-powered scope. Sweet... What are your hunting plans for the .358 this year?

There is no question but that the .358 is capable of some excellent accuracy.

I dont know how you guys shoot groups like that with lower power scopes.
I prefer my 2-7x old Redfield widefield Lo-pro for hunting, but ME shooting groups with it is uh......arghh!

NOW give me a good 24x bench scope and I'm good to go! lol

Ive seen guys do it......and I just shake my head in envy.

Excellent shooting!

I hunt by braille anymore; the older I grow, the less acute my vision and the higher the power of optics required to even see the target.

The 1/2 two hole 3-shot group was from 100 yards. I hit +2" at 100 yards and -2" at 200 yards.

This rifle a 700 with a Shilen #3 barrel is 4-5 years old now and it bugged me that a squared up action and custom barrel was not consistant. It showed promise and then would print say 1.5 in groups. Well it is in the cleaning or too much cleaning.

I ran three patches butches bore shine through it, let it sit an hour followed by dry patches and two wetted with shooter choice. A dry patch and then an oiled patch. It is far from clean but just before season I will put five rounds throught it and leave fouled for the season.

I already have data on loads I worked up using the 225gr PT and H4895. And have even played with the OCL witch is .020" from the lands. If I get these loaded in time I will use them this deer season.

That day I had two rifles at the range the 700/358win/VX3 1.5-5 and a 700/223rem/VX3 4.5-14 LR. I was shooting at Thomsons scoped rifle target. An 8" target with 4 orange Vees leaving white for where the crosshairs go and the orange fills the space betwean them.

At 200 yards all I can see is the four orange vees with the 5x scope but can clearly see the small one inch cross at the targets center with the 14x scope.

If it helps the 223rem was getting .75" 5-shot groups and 1.5" 200 yards groups. That about twice what I normaly shoot with it at 100 yards but I was tickled about how well the 358 did.
