Just wonder how some 358 cal bullets have worked for some shooters here? Mainly the 225gr Partition, 200gr pointed corelokt, and 200gr interlock spire point at 358win velocities? First for deer and than bigger stuff like black bears and elk. Any one shot the 200gr Corelokt round nose in the 358win?

For me the 200 corelokt in the whelen has worked extreamly well for deer three deer DRT.

The interlock took my first buck by 358win, 60 yards it went 15 yards stopped and dropped. A little quartering on shot, hit one lung and liver, but no exit.

I've only shot one head of game with my BLR, and that was a bison with the 250 grain Hornady SP. It performed well, though I would have been happier with a 225 grain Nosler PT. One, I get better velocity. Two, It is more accurate in my rifle. The bison was shot at about 80 yards and did not run far. The 358 is an excellent round.

tjen,

I have shot 4 WT bucks with the 35 Whelen 200 gr PSPCL factory load and recovered 2 of those bullets. It kills deer right now but not a lot of penetration on neck and shoulder shots.

I switched to the 225 gr PT and never looked back. I have taken many WT deer and a 250 lb Black Bear, always an exit wound the size of a quarter. Only a couple of blood trails and they were very short and very heavy.
I would expect similar results with your 358 Win.
I haven't used my 35 Whelen for several years but when she comes out of the safe, I will be using the 225 gr AB.

I shoot the 200gr Hornady Spire Point over H4895. I have only shot one deer, stem to stern, no exit but it was lodged near the front of the deer. It broke the pelvis, ripped about 6-8" of spine, destroyed the heart and lungs and then ran out of steam near the brisket, not bad for 2380fps shot was around 70yds. My next bullet to work with will be the Partitions, but I really like the 200gr Hornadys.

Thanks for the replies.
I figuar the hornady and rem 200gr preform pretty much the same on white-tails and if the 225 Partition expanse as fast on them it would work for bigger game too.
The AccuBond I will have to try if it fits in my 700 SA's magizine it should be great for deer bear and elk from 20-200 yards. The accubonds seems to expand at lower velocities do to the bonding process aneling the jacket. I think I will have to get use to using pointy bullets even in my close range guns too.
I was using 46.5gr of H4895 with the 225gr Partition for a 2430fps MV. Only used 46.7gr for the 200gr load at 2490fps MV.

I am running 47grs of H4895 with the 200 and getting 2380 from my 20" BLR. That was the first load I tried I am going to go up this winter and see how it likes it.

One thing I found that I thought was stange is the closer I got to the lands the worse the gun shot. Right now I think I am .065 away from the lands and it shoots real nice, I went to .015 and it was not good at all, any thoughts on that?

Every rifle has is own sweet spot. Looks like you found it at .065".

First, I have a model 700 with a 20.5 inch shilen barrel. It likes 0.030" to the lands for the 200gr spire point. I tried .020-.030 to the lands and the longer distance worked best. It was what the listed OCL came to and I did not improve on it.
I am using new winchester brass in 358win, federals 210M primers, and H4895powder. I get higher velocities than hornady lists for this load. I stopped at 2500fps just for a margin of safty thru I have seen no signs of pressure. I do use a moderate lee factory crimp on the hornady's.

Barrels have different harmonics and when handloaders taylor the distance to the lands for a give rifle were timeing the bullets exit of the barrel with point where the barrel is at is lest point of movement.
