375 RUM with Retumbo

Looking at loading Nosler 260 PT and Barnes 270 TSX. Any suggestions? Thanks

I know nothing about the 375 RUM, so correct me if I'm wrong but isn't retumbo a bit slow for the 375 rum? Not that that should stop you, i have tried it in most of my guns. It is a good powder.

I've had good luck with IMR4350 for the 260AB and RL-19 for the 260TSX.

Another powder is IMR 7828 - worked good for me with the 300AB.

Personally, I think Retumbo is to slow for the 375RUM.

Here's some other powders to try: H1000, 4831, H414, W760.

This is the load I worked up in my LSS with 26" barrel + 2" muzzle brake. It's accounted for 4 elk. Complete penetration on a quartering away bull at about 260 yds. 30+ inches of stomach, then took out the heart and lungs . The bullet was found stuck in the hair of the off side leg. A cow elk at 30 yards. Dead right there. heart and lungs shredded. Exit hole the size of a quarter. Can't beat the AccuBond.
CCI 250 Primer, 260gr. Nosler AccuBond, 97gr. IMR 4350, Case length 2.85, Overall length 3.59, Velocity 3083 FPS, 5500 FPE.

I realy think that is the appropriate caliber and power level for serious elk hunting. Kind of like Pop says about bullets, I want one that works when everything else goes wrong.

I shot my .375-.358STA with 89gr of IMR4350 with 250gr Sierra's @ 3080fps for quite a few years and killed a lot of game with it. I would probably still be shooting it if I didn't build my .416 Rem.

I built a 416 Rem also. It's going to get an tryout this elk season. 300 gr TSX at 2850 or the 350 A-Frame at 2660. I'm still wringing out the E.R.Shaw 26" barrel to see which it likes better. With the fluting and muzzlebrake it weighs 7.5 lbs with the scope. Nice to carry but I wouldn't want to shoot it much with out the brake.

My 26" barreled .416 Rem. shoots the 300gr TSX's at 2960fps with a grain below max of H4895. I think it is 85grs. I've killed quite a bit of game with those, including my cow moose and a bear a couple years ago, and 350gr Speer Mag Tips @ 2650fps (4 or 5 elk and 5+deer)
