Today I finally finished the velocity ladder with 20 powder charges for this rifle. I still have not hit a max charge but I'm done, and see no need for going any higher. I've well exceeded the speed I thought I could get. Bolt lift is still easy, primers are still round, and no shiny Mark's on case head. All of these charges are 350 grain speer mag tips with RL 15. All loads seated to cannelure, and velocity was measured with magnetospeed chronograph.

73.5= 2466 fps
74= 2458
74.5= 2469
75.0= 2465
75.5= 2476
76.0= 2482
76.5= 2502
77= 2517
77.5= 2576
78= 2550
78.5= 2610
79= 2593
79.5= 2607
80= 2650
80.5= 2620
81= 2650
81.5= 2674
82= 2669
82.5= 2675
83= 2699

Looks like you are getting settled in with this new rifle and having fun!

What load(s) do you think you are going to settle in on?

And what is your impression of the 416 Taylor Improved so far?

And then, what critter do you intend to hunt with this rifle/cartridge combo first?

And I forgot to ask you earlier what the case capacity of your case is?
Be interesting to compare with my non-Improved Quality Cartridge case as I need to try the 350 Speers in mine yet.

I'll probably settle around 2600 fps most likely, if they shoot pretty good. All I have is deer and an occasional wild hogs to hunt here in Mississippi. I'll try and get a water capacity today for the norma brass, and the quality cartridge brass and let you know. I'd be interested to see how they compare myself. So far I'm enjoying the rifle alot, not so much all this fire forming though lol. Deep down I kinda wish it was the original taylor so I wouldnt have to be doing all this forming haha.

Hey Blkram, I got those water capacity numbers for you. Do you happen to remember the capacity of your taylor brass

Quality Cartridge = 90.6 gr
Norma= 93.8 gr

If you ever take it to Africa a 400gr slug at 2400fps is the magic combination for penetration. All the classic 40 cal guns aimed for that.

So far I hit 2400 fps with 73 grains of imr 4320, and hornady 400 grain DGX. I have not been able to try RL 15 yet with those bullets.

Really impressive results. like you are thinking that bullet at around 2600 fps is going to be a hammer and have moderate pressure and excellent case life too. Hope you can turn that beast loose on some critter here in the next few months!
