6.5/06 AI 500 yard ladder results

Well here's the results from the 500 yard ladder testing tonight. 2" target dot for the POA. I think 57-58 is gonna be where I end up. Plenty accurate and right at 3000-3025 fps. Lower node just overall shoots better and more consistent. I don't need to push it, and my winchester brass will be a lot happier anyway. I don't want to ruin pockets after 3 or 4 firings chasing the 60-61 area at 3125-3150 fps. 60g was starting to give slight heavy bolt lift also anyway. I could see what 60 and 60.5 do since 60g put 2 touching, but I think that's the upper end with my rifle and H1000.

Should probably just split the difference at 57.5 shoot them at 500 to confirm and call it a day. What do you guys think? Or maybe reshoot 57 also as that 1 could have been me, but I'm not 100% sure. Will probably just reshoot 57, 57.5, and 58 anyway.

Nice shooting. Looks like a 1 grain wide node. I would redo 57-58 grains, it may be possible you pulled on one shot on the 57.

I'm surprised the 147's shoot that good at the upper node. Guys stopped shooting them over 3k in competition because they'd come apart with a worn barrel.

I'd assume it was fairly warm when you shot, since that is all its been around here lately? If it was, I'd focus closer to 57.5. Your getting a bit of velocity jump at 58 which suggests the upper end. Maybe try 57.7 and see if the velocity stays down closer to 57.5. The colder weather will drop you down between the 57 and 57.5 velocity most likely.

I'm going to respectfully disagree with that. This works for many of us that do it. It gives a great deal of data and starting point without wasting a bunch of time, components and barrel life. I've found 1K loads this way in all my rifles the last 10 years with under 40 rounds fired at most. I have never done a ladder test that didn't shoot the nodes they printed over 1 MOA. And most are typically around the 1/2 MOA area.

If your first 2 or 3 shots aren't 1/2 MOA or better, no amount of shots after that is going to do any better or prove anything. Time to move on.

Definitely going to reshoot 57-58g I think that's a pretty safe bet for a decent node. Those 6 shots were 3.5" and the 5 went into 1.75"

I did not draw any tags. I procrastinated until the last day, and then got stuck at work, so didn't even get to put in. I'm going to buy a fall black bear this week and deprivation cow tag, so I'll still be able to get out and hunt.

It's only been 80 here the last few days which is nice. Definitely going to reshoot 57-58g as I think that's a good spot to be. Those 6 shots were 3.5" spread over a grain, with 5 going into 1.75".

Doubt I'm going to do much exploring on the 60g 3100+ side of things. No need for it. These 147s at 3K are plenty good enough with that kind of accuracy. They hit the 500 yard plates hard and get there quick.

They kill well too. My kids have killed several elk, with 6.5x47 and 6.5prc, and my dad has killed at least a half dozen elk with them in his 6.5 Creedmoor.

Good to know! I'll keep that in mind as a back up to the 7-300 Win Mag with 180g ELDMs at 3K also.

That new 4 port Beast brake of yours is great also. Makes shooting very easy. Recoil is less than a 243.
