Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this round. I have always liked odd balls rounds, took my first deer w/ a 6.5 carcano. and my primary rifle is 35 whelen and I was thinking I needed a flat shooting round so why not a 6.5-06

Outstanding long range deer and target round. If I didn't like 25-06 so much, I would rebarrel to a 6.5-06. With that said, shoot a 140g at around 2900fps and its a great 1000 yard rifle. Accurate, easy on the shoulder and powder. If you want something different, then go for it. Theres nothing wrong with it, thats for sure.

Everything that 25-06 rem said. I had a buddy with a 26" custom barrelled 6.5-06. He got 3000 fps from H870 and 140's . You can not beat this round. Does everything a 25-06 or 270 can do (more or less).

a friends dad who lives in lakeview built one on a mauser rifle, he wont sale the rifle, so I am going to see how much he will build one for me. I figure if I ever draw an antelope tag I will need a long range rifle,( until then jackalopes will have to do) plus it would be great for blacktails. I was thinking about a 264 mag but why when I can get the same velocity out of a standard case.

what is the easiest case to form 6.5 brass-30-06, 270, 0r 25-06

The 6.5x06 is actually the same as the 6.5x54 brenneke. It is best formed from 270 brass and is actually one of my favorite rounds. It is a true performer and really shows off when using the 125 Partition,

I think you might have meant 6.5x64

YUP!

A 6.5x54 is just 3mm longer case than a 308 length case.

The 6.5-06 sounds like a good cartridge. As good as the 140 grain Partition shoots out of my 6.5X55, and it's excellent SD and BC properties,
I can certainly see either a 6.5-06 or a 264 Win in my future! 8)

I have owned both 6.5-06 and 264 Win Mag. The 6.5-06 will get 3000 and pennies in a 26" barrel and the right powders. The 264 Win will do 3250+ with the right powders. So you have to decide if the extra velocity is important to you. You will burn about 10-14 grains more powder in the 264, and the barrel life will be somewhat less, but not as bad a barrel burner as many will have you believe. The 6.5-06 is a pleasant chambering that really is effective out as far as most hunters can shoot reliably. If you can capitalize on the extra that the 264 offers, then go for it. Trajectory for the 264 with a 140 Partition started at almost 3300 looks like this. 100: +3"; 200: +3.7"; 300: +1"; 400: -6"; 500: -17"; 600: -33" These figures are from actually shooting, not from any ballistic chart, so you can take it any way you want. I have taken several head of game at 450-575 yards with the 264 and it lays them flat when you place that shot right. The 6.5-06 is about 5" less flat at 500 yards, so not really too bad at all in it's own right. You will not be disappointed with either choice, I'm sure. Regards, Eagleye.

Eagleye,
Thank you for the information!
That 264 does sound GOOD! I can imagine the 140 grain Partition at 3250
I might just have to try the 264 alright!!
