Carbon buildup and Reloder 16?

After getting some very fast loads compared to book velocities, I cleaned my rifle very deeply including iosso with brushes and then wipeout overnight.

Velocity dropped 200 fps with the next rounds.

After some searches I find some shooters saying the Reloder 16 I was using lays down carbon more than others. Anyone else notice this?

Any gentle techniques for getting the carbon ring cleaned other than scrubbing with abrasives?

Just when I think i have things figured out (been loading for this rifle for 35 years), along come new issues. I guess that's why reloading stays interesting.

I have used Reloder 16 in 300 WSM and 6.5 CM. I never noticed a difference in buildup compared to others. But, I clean with Wipe-Out frequently, like every 15 to 20 rounds.

I use an Iosso brush with Iosso paste or similar for carbon rings.

If you’re getting 200 FPS extra I’d be a bit leery of keeping that carbon knocked down. I’ve not seen 16 act weird like that myself.

Have you a borescope to check the bore? I would like to check the bore and see the condition it is in after cleaning. It's strange that velocity dropped 200 fps after cleaning. Has it been shooting same groups as before prior to cleaning?

Haven't a borescope. Money is an issue these days. Are there worthwhile inexpensive versions?

It has always shot best clean when I get all the noticeable copper out of the bore. Roughly I clean it every other trip to the range and usually shoot less than 20 rounds a trip. This last group looked as good but 3600 fps instead of the 3800 fps that particular charge gave last time.

What brand of chronograph are you using? If the barrel is cleaned on a regular basis , the accuracy of your chronograph would be a subject.

I have used Teslong. It's good for the money.

But......

BUT...........

New issues didn't happen without implementing new powder into the fold.

My question...

What made you start using Reloader 16?

I had a partial jug that didn't work for another cartridge (too bulky/slow) and it was listed as having high velocity in this round.

Gotcha...

I can certainly appreciate that.

Velocity numbers get us all at some point.
Sucks us right in alright.

I was hoping you didn't say about the weather immunity.
That drives me crazy. Our industry is the trendiest when it comes to new product or thinking.

A reputable author, good or bad, pens an article saying accuracy gets better by turning the scope around .....

You better believe some people will indeed try it. 🙄🙄🙄🙄
