I scored some H4895 and would like to plan some reduced loads for my youth hunter. I'm thinking 6.5 CM with 120-130 class bullets. 130 TGK, 120 NBT, 130AB, 129ABLR, any suggestions?

When my daughter was first using the 260 i loaded some reduced loads with h4895 and hornady 129gr interlock, they shot very well. Rifle was a ruger m77mkii that i cut the barrel down, i think 17in, and put in a ruger compact stock. With the lower velocities i wouldn't spend the extra on an AccuBond, ablr i could see.

Nosler shows the starting load with IMR 4895 at 35.5 gr for 2701 fps with the 120 gr BT...max is 39.5 gr for 2944 fps (24" barrel).

Sierra shows the starting load with H4895 as 32.0 gr for 2400 fps with the 130 gr TMK, so the 130 gr TGK should work similarly. Max is 36.7 gr for 2700 fps.

Hornady did not list any loads with H4895 for the 129 gr that I could find with a quick search...

Hope this helps.

Boy, I’d be tempted to try the 100’s in it myself. Be it PT, BT, TTSX, etc.. try it around 2700 and see how it feels. I see Nosler has Varget and 15 data, so H4895 is right in there. Might make a wicked pleasant little combo.

I have a 260 rem that I'm using reduced loads in for my grandson . I used H4895 . I did the 60% of max load . I used a 107 TMK in these . it's very mild recoil at the 60% powder charge . I put a couple of these bullets in water jugs . I'm pretty sure I posted the results in the bullet test section . I would not be afraid of hunting whitetails with that bullet .

I agree with the other guys , I would not be using a bonded bullet in this reduced load . before I hunted with a mono metal bullet I'd jug test it . I think a frangible bullet will work best .

In my Mod 70 6.5x55 I loaded the 100gr BT at starting load with 3 different powders to see how it would perform for a grandson. All grouped under 1.5 ins and he shot couple of deer with them. Big holes DRT no tracking.

You won't go wrong with the 120 Ballistic Tip, I have used it on whitetails, and a red stag. Dropped right there, and its an accurate bullet and performance wise is very good.

That’s sure as heck good enough for hunting anything the 260 was made for. Great load and shooting!
