6.5 SAUM or 6.5 WSM

Longrange hunter, I'm leaning toward the 6.5-7mm WSM, since I have so much brass. What powders are you running? I have on hand Retumbo, norma 217, imr 7977 and RL 33. I'm looking for RL 26 also.

R 25 and Magpro have both worked well for me with 130 & 140 grain weights. I would bite the bullet and go with the 6.5-270wsm brass over the 7mm brass. Great caliber for LR hunting and shooting. I have about 400 rounds down the tube of a #4 contour barrel that might have another 5-600 rounds left in it.

I had a 6.5/7SAUM built on a Savage 12. It weighs about 11.5 lbs as pictured. I'm running a 26" Benchmark barrel. It shoots really well! I'm sitting at nearly 300 rounds down it, and believe I have a lot of life left. I'm not pushing it to hard, and getting 3093fps with the 140 VLD. and I was getting 3144 with the 140 Amax.


This Yote was taken @ 635 yards. I was on fire that week. I took yotes at 635, 454, 273, 686, 710, and 300 yards, all with one shot kills shooting the 140 Amax.

I shot this 1000 yard group two weeks ago. It is my new personal best.

Brass prep is a bit of a chore, but I'm very happy with it. I would think that either of the WSM or the SAUM would fit what you are looking to do nicely. I'm hoping to take this rifle to Wyoming this fall to try to tag a speed goat or two.

Dr Mike, could you run quickload on a 6.5-7mm WSM with the 129 & 142 ABLR, 26" barrel and 3.05 OAL?

Just a heads up Hornady is going to start making 6.5SAUM(6.5 Gap 4s) brass exclusively for GA Percisions.

Wow, that's a good thing, a lot of work is involved in making that brass. Glad to see George Gardner see things through and can get things done like that. Great businessman, and really good about getting back to you.
