Any recommendations? My father just got a 21" 7-30 barrel for this Contender.....

I was thinking 120 BT's, personally.

I would think 120's out of the 7-30 would be pretty awesome for whitetails Tom. Looking at the speeds the 7-30 will push them, I would think they would be about perfect. No idea about loads, but I would think any of the good 30-30 powders would be about right like W748, Leverevolution, 4064, RL15, etc? Scotty

He's fire-forming brass with whatever old bullets he scrounges up for now, but he's looking at 120BT's and 4064 and W748.

I'd think for <200 yards, a 120BT and the 7-30 should be a good combo. Neat little round in the Contender. Shot two rounds yesterday just to shoot it....he plopped a 20-ish year old Leupold fixed 4 on it. I think it's the same scope that was on his 700 Classic in 257 Bob that I shot my first deer with, actually.

Nice, nothing but business! I like it! I would think that would be a great deer getter. A fixed 4X should be about perfect. Scotty

The 7x30 Waters is a fun little round to shoot and will take are of WT deer out to 300 yds.
The 120 gr BT is a very robust bullet and it is well suited to the 7x30 for deer hunting.

I shoot a T/C Contender 14" in 7x30 Waters with a Nikon Monarch 2.5x8 scope. This handgun is extreamly accurate and will out shoot a few of my buddies who are using rifles!

120 gr BT
34.5 grs Varget
Fed Case
FedGM210M
COL 2.864"
best 3 shot group at 100 yds .225"
This load has EXCESSIVE muzzle flash in the 14" barrel but should be fine in the longer rifle barrel..

120 gr BT
33.5 grs IMR 4895
best 3 shot group at 100 yds .747"

120 gr BT
35.0 grs RL15
best 3 shot group at 100 yds .700"

Not meaning to get too far adrift of the subject,,,,, But I have always been curious as to much difference in case capacity there is between the 7-30 Waters, and Eben Brown's 7BRM, that I have.
Have you ever checked the case capacity of the 7-30 Jim?
Beyond that I couldn't do a fair comparision, as I'm running the 7BRM out of an Encore, but just curious.

Tom, I notice that you mentioned IMR 4064 as a potential powder for this cartridge. I use 4064 in my .32 Special which is a similar shape and capacity case with high velocity and very good accuracy. If 4895 works, IMR 4064 should work fine also.
