Ok So I acquired a 721 in 264 win mag last year and we have a few tags this fall so I am thinking about getting it road worthy.

This has a wood stock on it but it is not the original one and I really just do not like it.

I am wondering how much difference there is between a 721 and 700 so if I were to use a modern cdl stock or a laminate from stockys or even a synthetic.

The floor plate is a bit different and the bulge on the barrel where the rear sight is is different. Sometimes you need to relieve the bolt handle notch too. I have a 721 stock if you need one.

I also have at least two 700/721 takeoffs one of which could be yours if you would like one. Let me see what they are exactly

I am curious to see how the bottom metal fits.

I talked to my uncle who had one and he said the only mods he made were around the hump where the sight is on th ebarrel and around the trigger/safty

He said if I replace the trigger that will not be an issue and I dont have the hump on my barrel because this rifle is a late 721 transition

and I am interested in the stocks you guys have. I dont mind refinishing just dont want to have to deal with any cracks or deep dings or gouges

Here is the one I have.

Mine are the tupperware, variety. One has been piller bedded and stiffened, it has the blind magazine. The other is a Ram Line with the trapdoor magazine hole.

Just went through this.
I took a 722 in 257 Bob with the barrel band for the rear sight and restocked it with a 700ADL stock.

Had to relieve the area at the safety lever to get it operational. It would engage but not disengage.
The barrel band area I used a dremel tool to do. Made a couple of reference marks with a pencil and went at it slowly. It took all of about thirty minutes.
Got a 700 ADL trigger guard as I didn't want to try and inlet the stock to accept the 722 bottom metal. (Read LAZY)
The original magazine out of the 722 was taller than that of a 700 ADL and the action wouldn't drop into the stock. Replaced it with a 700 ADL blind magazine.
Got to the range and found out it wouldn't feed out of the magazine. Had to replace the magazine follower with the follower out of a 700 as well.

The only other hurdle was the center action screw of the 722 was longer than that of a 700.When fully tightened the bolt was locked in battery and wouldn't open.
No big deal. Took the screw to a bench grinder and problem solved.

Stock was $40.00 used
Magazine and follower were $20.00
Trigger guard was $5.00

Made the rifle a lot more pleasant to shoot, no more lifting your head up to see through the scope.Cheekweld is much better and subsequently the groups got smaller.

I have two 721's both have been restocked, my findings were similar to HT. Mine were both long action and one was rebarreled to 35 whelen, used the same follower, some new bottom metal. The other is a 300 HH bored to 300 B, again used the same follower.
