Hey,

Has anyone ever used H4350 with 140gr projectiles in 7mm-08? How did it go?

I'm going to save all my 120gr TTSX for my 280 AI, so I'm thinking of loading up 140gr E-Tips in my 7mm-08. I have IMR 4350, which Nosler has data for, but I'd really like to try and use up some of my H4350.

Any help is appreciated.

I haven't tried H4350 but it will work. I've used RL16 with 140gr Etips which is right next to H4350. Both powders are almost too slow for 140gr IMO. You end up with compressed loads(Not necessarily bad), Hodgdon says 48gr of H4350 max for 2850fps in 24" barrel.

I'm more than okay with 2800 fps with a compressed load. I have a 24" barrel on mine so I should hypothetically be able to pull something close to those numbers

Yes, I loaded a 7mm-08 Browning X-Bolt with 140 gr. Ballistic Tip bullets and H-4350. That combination worked great for me. Below is a 100 yard, 0.65", five shot group I shot with it. I also shot a 4" group with it at 400 yds. Dan

I've had good success with Varget and the Hornady 139 SST, and that's what I've stuck with in the few 7mm-08's I loaded for, but here is a direct quote from John Barsness. Granted you are using an E-tip so that's possible to act like a different animal with different pressures. NY Dan's post above confirms what John was stating.

7mm-08 Remington: "You cannot beat 47.0 to 50.0 grains of H-4350 and any bullet around 140 grains in Remington’s little update of the classic 7x57mm Mauser. Some bullets are longer and grabbier so will only take the lighter charge, but Hornady’s 139 grainer will take 50.0 grains. Muzzle velocity ranges between 2,800 and 2,900 fps in 22- inch barrels."

Nice shooting. Thanks!

I wish I could find Varget. It's practically unobtainium
Right before the "chinademic" hit I found several pounds of Varget. While I really didn't need it at the time Im glad I bought it. Its as scarce as a pro-second amendment Bidenite at an NRA rally.

I’ve only tried W760 and RL-17 with 140gr bullets in my 7-08 rifle. RL-17 smoked the W760 and never tried anything else.
