7mm-08

I have a chance to buy a 7mm-08 and I am wondering if I am going to have problems finding ammunition for this. What type of game and shooting is this good for? I heard it is good for target shooting but unsure. Does nosler make accubonds for this caliber? I may want to hunt deer is this overkill for missouri whitetails? If in the future these cases become hard to find how hard is it to neck down a .308 case? I believe that this is a derivitive of the .308.

The 708 is becoming more and more popular every day. It`s a great deer cartridge and will do on elk sized game in a pinch. Ammo is available around here in most "mart" type stores and reloading is a breeze. You can run a 308 or 243 case through your sizer and come out with a 708 case with little ado. I`d try to size up rather then down though as i feel it makes for more consistant brass. The 308 case may need some trimming after sizeing down also.
You are going to love the cartridge, don`t fret it....

BTW any 140gr and if you can find ammo with the Nosler 120 BT will make excellent deer slayers. I reload the 139 gr Hornady SP or 120 Nosler in mine for just that purpose and take whichever I`ve close on hand at the moment hunting with out a second thought.

Yes Nosler makes Accubonds for this. All the same 7MM (.284) bullets will work. should be a good Deer cartridge. It was recommended to me for a lite Elk rifle for my daughter when she gets older.

7mm-08 is a great round capable of excellent accuracy and capable of taking game up to elk size game. The 7mm-08 is an excellent round for WT deer . The 140 gr bullet weight is just about perfect for deer size game. It is offered by all of the major ammunition manufactures and cases are easily formed by running 308 Win cases through a 7mm-08 sizer die.

Go get that 7mm-08 and enjoy!

+1 on what has been said, but necking up 243 would be preferred rather than necking down 308 as brass thickness at the neck will be more going down and less going up. Really though, when only necking one caliber, it's not a big deal but it is ideal to neck up no matter the cartridge.

Less recoil than a 308 and a little flatter shooting with good power. Ideal for deer and pretty much anything a 308 will take. It has become the perfect and preferred caliber for youngsters, women and light rifles that have to be carried a lot and wont kick the bejeebers out of you while it knocks a big buck down with authority. I have one in a Rem. Model 7 and I've carried it a lot. And if you want to take elk you can load up with 160 gr. bullets or for the big bulls they sell light mag and high energy loadings.

Very, Very excellent cartridge indeed. Extremely accurate and will kill bigger than you think it can. I had one in a Sako Custom and it was a tack driver.

I have a hunting partner that carries a 7mm-08. He does very well on mule deer and moose and black bear with this calibre. Ammunition is not a problem. Buy the rifle; you'll not be sorry.

I bought one for my wife and am still in load development, but so far I have had more good shooting loads than not. I'm loking for three under an inch when I say good shooting loads. It doesn't kick much and respectable velocities can still be obtained. I would of never owned one for myself until I got this one for my wife, now I'm considering getting myself one.

I was going to get one for my daughter ( who is 8 mos old) but I decided since remingtons limited edition cdl sf for the year she was born 2008 was 260 rem I am getting her one of those instead

7mm 08 I would get one if I did not have too many others on my wish list already but if I ran accross the right deal I would not hesitate.

I have one in a Remington Model 7 youth and it shoots the 140 Accubonds great. I don't get as much velocity with the shorter barrel, 18.5 inches, but it is a handy little rifle. My buddy uses one almost exclusively on everything he hunts in Washington. He has killed 3 elk with it and finds the 150 Partition to be about perfect. He is loaded fairly hot but he drives tacks with it.

I can't say anything about the 7-08 that hasn't already been said. I've had one for years now and taken everything from Antelope to Elk with it.
They are easy to load for and generally not too picky with what is shot through them.
The 120gr B-tip or 140gr A-bond would be a great W-tail bullet and more than adequate enough.

Mines' a Rem 700 Varmiter.... factory barrel, bedded and triger job....

You're crackin me up ! The 7-08 my Dad gave me years ago when I was a kid..... it's pretty much become my safe Queen and one I'll never part with.....but....the 150gr B-tips do quite nice on elk. :grin:
