Does anyone have good load data for either 7mm Rem Mag or 7mm Wea Mag using 150-160 gr bullets and H870 or AA8700 powder?

Thanks

Jimbeaux

I've got some, but it'll take me a little while to dig them up. Do you have either powder? Or are you working off some surplus milspec stuff? Either way, I'll get load data to you if I can later today.

My all time favorite load is 79gr of H870, CCI250, WW case and a good one 160 grain bullet. It shot like banshees and was accurate in alot of other buddies rifles. I like H870. Scotty

My current "go to" load for the 7 RM is built with H870 and 175 grain Partitions. The load give great accuracy and excellent velocities. I've used a little A8700, but I usually reserve my small supply for other overbore cartridges.

Mike, that's what I used in my 7mm Rem mag for my Wyoming bull hunt years ago; H870 and the 175 Nosler Partition. The 175 Sierra actually shot a little better, but not much, and I wanted the terminal performance of the long & lethal 175 Partition. It worked just fine.

H870 is real tough to find anymore.

Guy,

My last three pounds are reserved for loading for my 7 RM. It has served me well for many years, and I will use up the last of my powder. I also have a little over three pounds of A8700 that I use for some larger capacity cartridges.

I hope this is helpful. I used to have more sources, but somehow I've misplaced a couple of pamphlets. This is pretty much all the data out there right now, anyway. At least to the best of my knowledge. Good luck with it!

I've got five pounds of H870 and it is really, really, really, old. I think its from WWII. It still looks and smells like it should. I tried it with some 160s a while ago and go some good initial results but it sure is temperature sensative to the tune of over 200fps from the 90s of summer to the 70s of fall. I'll likely give it a whirl with some of the loads ya'll posted for the 175 Partition. I got a couple hundred of 'em coming from the pro shop.

Actually I am considering buying some milsurp WC857 or WC872, and both reference the H870 and AA8700. So I am trying to decide if they are good applications for 7 Mags , both Rem and Wby. I would like to get 3100 fps out of 150 gr bullets and close to that , 3050 fps , with 160 gr bullets.

If they are temp sensative, I probably will not go to the trouble and just pay extra for the more modern non-temp sensative powders.

This is probably the place to ask this but is US 869 the replacement for H 870? Tried US 869 in my 264 WM but it wasn't nearly as accurate as H 4831 SC or Retumbo.

Gerry,

I don't believe you can consider the US869 as a replacement for H870, just another slow powder. It has application in some of the high-capacity cartridges, but I've found in most cases so far that other powders give me greater accuracy.

I've used AA8700 in my 270Wby with very good results accuracy-wise. I've not found it to be terribly temperature sensitive, exhibiting about 75-100fps variance from 85-90deg in the summer to freezing or slightly below in the winter over my chronograph. I consistently get 2950-3000fps from a mild 150gr load, that consistently prints under half MOA for three shots, and sometimes under caliber, around .25MOA. That's from a Mark V Synthetic with a sporter barrel. I wouldn't hesitate to try it in a 7mmRemMag if I had one in the safe. In fact, I've considered the milsurp stuff for when my 8700 runs out.

The 175gr Partition, 7mm rem mag load i have shot is 77gr and it was showing 2860fps out of a 26" If i had a bunch of it i would shoot it up. But re22 works a bit better for me.

George welcome to the forum buddy. We can always use another gun nutty Greek around here.

Great place to be

Thank you for the warm welcome Foti, I think I'll like it here.

As a quick intro, I've been reloading since the early 80s, for both pistols and rifles, in all sorts of calibers. I love milserps (Swiss, Swedes, Germans, Brazilians....) so I reload for everything I shoot, other than 22LR and 22mag.

I was thinking to buy a couple of 8 pound jugs of WC872 from Wideners and was researching the particulars of the powder and potential use of proven recipes for 7.5x55, 8mm, 7mm Rem Mag, and 308.
