Would someone be kind enough to run some Quickload numbers for me? I would greatly appreciate it.

7mm Rem Mag
IMR 4831
139gr SST and 140gr Ballistic Tip
COAL 3.250”
26” barrel

I’m going to come up with a deer load for a long power line. Kind of a generic load to be used in 2 of my 7mm RM’s. I’ve read that IMR 4831 has one of the lowest flame temps for suitable 7mm RM powders, 3720 if memory serves correctly, and is a very accurate performer in 7mm RM.

FYI: Varget and Vihtavouri 500 series double base powders seem the hardest on a throat burning between 4000 and 4100 for flame temps.

It does great in my 270 and after looking at my stocks I have 17 lbs of it. It appears I’ve developed quite the hoarding condition regarding powder, primers, and brass for years now.

Good shooting there! I have RL22, 23, 25, and 26 but have read where many people have gotten great results with accuracy and velocity using IMR 4831. It’s a basic single base powder with low flame temp, that always seems to perform well in just about everything it’s applicable to. Essentially I’ve got it in my head to see how it will perform.

I’ll use it as a deer load in a 24” 9 twist 7RM, and possibly in another with a 26” 8 twist. The 1:8 rifle shoots 175gr ELD-X’s lights out so we will see how it performs in that one.

I don’t need to work up another load. 160gr Hot-Cor’s always serve me well in 7RM’s for deer and black bear. Just want to see what I can make it do.

Joe I have gotten excellent accuracy using IMR 4831 in my Tikka 7 Mag. For bullets to go with that powder I have 140gr SGK, 150,162gr ELDX, 150 gr Partitions, 120,140gr Nosler Ballistic tips. All of the aforementioned bullets shot sub moa with IMR 4831 in my rifle. I did not get the speeds with IMR 4831 (I am not a speed freak by any means just had a goal in mind that I wanted to acheive with that rifle) that I get with RL 23 but the accuracy is phenomenal. If you are sitting on 17 lbs of IMR 4831 I would definitely try to find some loads to use it!! Good luck.

Good luck Joe. I can’t see you not getting good loads if it agrees with your rifle. 7 Rems I’ve been around don’t seem to fussy and those 139’s should hurt bucks pretty bad!
